The annual Burns supper on January 25 was again very well attended with all tickets sold. The haggis was piped in by Andrew Littlejohn with Bethan Owen as Poosie Nansie, David Littlejohn carrying the whisky and Ryan Crowe carrying the quaich. Mr. John McKie, from Balmullo, gave a rousing address to the haggis. The excellent meal was prepared by Mrs. Carol Owen, with a little help from Morag Jones. Over coffee and shortbread, the company was treated to some extremely entertaining speeches. The chairman for the evening Mr. Blair Little John, presented the Immortal Memory, Rev. Alex Strickland gave the "Toast to the Lasses" and his wife, Jan gave the reply. A ceilidh followed, with music provided by Lewis Thomson from Leven. During a break in the dancing, Andrew piped a medley of tunes, accompanied by his brother David on Drums. This very enjoyable evening raised £440 towards hall funds.
Winners of the January draw of the Dairsie Memorial Hall 200 Club were- M. Lorimer (Balmullo) £20; S. Burnett (Dundee) £10; M. Cowieson (Dairsie) £5

Dairsie Youth Club is holding an indoor car boot sale at the YMCA, Cupar this Sunday starting at 1 p.m. Money raised will help 15 young people from the club to participate in a residential excursion to the Stanley Nairne Centre in Dunkeld. Whilst on the excursion, the young people will have the opportunity to participate in various events including swimming, abseiling, trapeze, "pop stars" and many more activities. The young people will also be raising funds by getting sponsorship for doing their abseil. One of the young people participating said; "We don't want our parents to pay for every thing so we decided to come up with a way we could raise some of the money ourselves." The youngsters will be serving teas, coffee and juice at the Sale on Sunday as well as manning their own stalls. Andrew Cummings (club Youth Worker/Leader) said; "the young people love coming along to the club from 6.30 - 8 p.m. (juniors) and 7.45 - 9.15 p.m. (seniors) and when we started to talk about a residential trip they all wanted to get involved." For information about Dairsie Youth Club contact Andrew at the Y office.
A petition, prepared by the Presbytery of St. Andrews at a recent meeting in Cupar, was available at the Sunday morning service for the signature of Dairsie Church members who support the motion, which reads as follows; "We, the undersigned, are against the use of military force against Iraq until such times as it is clearly authorised by the UN, and urge the Government at all times to seek a peaceful resolution to the dispute."
Dairsie folk are asked to support their indoor car boot sale at the YMCA, Cupar, on Sunday, from 1 - 4 p.m. Tables are £6 each; book at the "Y". Donations of cake and candy, and bric-a-brac are needed, and can be given to Youth Club members, or handed in at the "Y".
Primaries one, two and three from Dairsie Primary School with their teacher Mr. Kevin Cormack, were invited to last Monday's meeting of the Guild, and what an entertainment they gave - a demonstration of course work through the year, and each item these well-behaved youngsters presented was well rehearsed, and a pleasure to all. These were songs, instruments, poems and dance, and it is impossible to say who enjoyed it the most - children or adults. Mrs. Tomlinson thanked them, and juice and biscuits followed - by speed of demolition, all the children thought that the best bit of all. Then followed a demonstration by Mrs. Taylor, Leven, after the children left for school. Members were shown one of her many craft hobbies, silk ribbon embroidery; how to work with narrow ribbon embroidery, and saw finished examples of cards, a picture and a box, beautifully embroidered. Mrs. Roger expressed thanks, and a business meeting followed.
Members are reminded that Sunday is Communion Sunday - service at usual time - 10 am. Last Sunday was Presbytery Sunday, when, on behalf of the congregation, Alex Lorimer, session clerk, welcomed the Rev. Dr. Mary Henderson, minister of Martyrs Church, St Andrews linked with Boarhills and Dunino. She chose "Church without walls" as her theme. It becomes increasingly expensive to maintain church buildings, so how can the church continue? There were no buildings when Christ carried his message to the people, and congregations should carry this expression of their faith seven days a week, not just inside church walls. Mr Gavin Rae, Presbytery elder from Martyrs Church read the lessons. An opportunity for fellowship followed over refreshments in the church hall.
