All the tickets were sold, and more admitted at the door, when Fife Strathspey and Reel Society came to perform on Friday in the village hall. Especially welcome were the families, with the children irresistibly drawn to dance in the aisle! The Pitcairn Trust, as requested by many, hope to repeat the visit next year, but there was a wee word that more comfy seats would be welcome! The trust are pleased to report that £270.50 was raised towards the cost of maintaining the Pitcairn Park.
Folks arrived, patronised the stalls, and settled down to enjoy unlimited coffee/tea and the home baked scones or pancakes with butter and jam! There were many new folk there to give their support, and by the level of chat, all were having a really good time! Chair of the hall committee, Morag Jones, thanked all the helpers, and the visitors, and the committee can hardly believe that the sum of £400 was raised towards maintenance of the hall.
Winners of the April draw of the Dairsie Memorial Hall 200 Club were - S. Taylor, Dairsie - £20; K. Davies, Cupar - £10; R. Murray - £5.
All proceeds from the 'Rural' coffee morning in the village hall tomorrow (Saturday), 10 - 11.30 am go to two great causes - Maggie's Centre and the Christmas treat for Dairsie Senior Citizens - please help if you can.
There will be a house-to-house collection in Christian Aid week from May 11 - 16, with so many people suffering in the world today, of any faith or none, all are helped, so please give as generously as you can.
The meeting on April 28 opened with a hymn, prayer and reading, led by the president. The minutes of the last general meeting were read and approved. The secretary reported on successful meetings through the year, with good average attendance of 19 members. The treasurer's report was presented and approved with finances satisfactory. The president reported on visits, outings and Christmas lunch - all much enjoyed. She thanked the office bearers, Mrs. Stevenson for musical accompaniment, and all Guild members for their immediate support whenever required. The three office-bearers were proposed and seconded for another term, which they accepted. They are Mrs. W. Ferguson, president; Mrs. B. Fargie, secretary; and Mrs. A. Paul, treasurer. The president then announced that the new Guild theme is 'Dare to Care', and this was borne in mind as members discussed a syllabus for the coming year: several subjects were suggested for the office- bearers to take forward. As usual, some of the funds raised go to Dairsie Church, and this year it is proposed that a sorely neglected built-in brush cupboard be rebuilt for storage purposes. The strawberry tea, so much enjoyed last year, is to be held on Sunday afternoon, July 6. Refreshments were enjoyed during the evening and the meeting closed with a hymn and prayer.
There was no Dairsie News published in the Fife Herald on the 16/05/2003.
Dairsie WRI would like to say a warm thank you to the Dairsie folk who gave their support at their annual charity coffee morning in the village hall. The event was much enjoyed, and the 'Rural' members are pleased to report that around £335 was raised, to be shared between Maggie's Centre appeal and Dairsie senior citizen's Christmas gift.
All are reminded that on Sunday there will be no service at Dairsie Church. Instead, members and friends of the linked churches of Dairsie, Kemback and Strathkinness will unite in worship at Kemback Church - please note that the service will commence at 11 a.m. - one hour later than the usual 10 a.m. at Dairsie Church. All are welcome.
Together with the after-church coffee morning on Sunday, May 18, and the house-to-house collection in the parish, the convenor thanks all who gave their willing help as collectors, many helping for the first time. £262.80 was raised for Christian Aid. Collectors were Anne Brown, Anne Duff, Willa Ferguson, Helen Horsburgh, Yoko Littlejohn, Bill Sinclair, Hazel Smith and Helen Wallace.
Mrs. Isobel Bell convened the Red Cross collection in the village, and with the tireless assistance of only two other collectors, Ruby Braid and Jean Manzie, £195.21 was raised, for which many thanks go to all those who contributed.
