Thirteen teams took part in the first of this year's quiz nights recently. Along with many of the regular teams, it was nice to welcome some new participants. This time the questions were complied and presented by last year's winners - the Rover's Return team, namely Bernard and Margaret Roberts, John Prentice and Roger Bentley. Most of the scores were quite close, but in the lead through most of the quiz were 'The Late comers,' who had the winning score of 77 points. Chairperson of the hall, Morag Jones, congratulated the winners, and presented them with the Dairsie Quiz Night Trophy and medals. Sponsors for this event included Dairsie Mini Mart, St. Andrews Auto Services, Edenbank Farm, J. and E. Woodcock, Jones Pharmacy, T. S. and M. Computer Suppliers, Tayvallich Golfing Society, Rosie Murray and Fiona Burnett. The sum of £500 was raised to go towards hall funds. The committee would like to thank those who participated in and helped to organise the evening.
The service in Dairsie Parish Church on Sunday was a special one for the children of the Sunday School. They heard a talk from the minister, the Rev. Alex Strickland on special days. Sunday was Father's Day, a special day, birthdays are special too, and so were the words of Jesus when he told his disciples 'Let the children come unto me.' The prizewinners, who were given activity books to enjoy in the holidays, were - Stuart Dawson, Sarah Dawson, Hannah Ashcroft, Catriona Black, Bethan Owen and Kim Dawson. Kim also received a Bible as she is now old enough to go to Bell Baxter school next term. The Sunday School leaders, Avril Paul and Morag Jones were thanked warmly for their devoted service. The children enjoyed a party in the park after the presentation, with games and ice cream much enjoyed. Sunday School resumes in September.
Helen Horsburgh celebrated a special birthday with family and friends in the village hall on Saturday evening. It is difficult to believe that she is now 80 years of age, she is so active - a treasure in the community, always helping and caring for others; taking a lively part in all village activities; a keen, competitive bowls player, and always a busy person with her interest in crafts - a cheery friend to all. Many happy returns, Helen.
The ladies of the Guild enjoyed warm sunshine for their visit to Balcarres, by Colinsburgh (unlike Dairsie which had a very heavy storm!) Conducted around the colourful garden by the impressively knowledgeable Lady Crawford, who could remember the correct botanical names! She related how she had developed and designed the garden during her 25 years tenure, to ensure colour for as long as possible in our climate. Unable to resist weeding as we progressed, it was obviously a labour of love by a dedicated gardener. All expressed heartfelt thanks, then on to the Staghead Hotel, Largoward, for a fine afternoon tea of scones with jam and cream, cakes and unlimited tea or coffee. Altogether, a very happy outing.
June winners of the monthly draw are; £20 - W. Sinclair; £10 - S. Jones, £5 - B. Crowe. All winners this month are from Dairsie.
