200 Club

Winner of the July draw of the Dairsie Memorial Hall 200 Club were H. Dunlop -£20; A. Duff - £10; J. Armes - £5. The other later two winners are local folk, but the winner this month is from Tayvallich, Argyll, so it seems that Dairsie's fame spreads afar! On enquiry, your correspondent learnt that he visits Dairsie each year on a golfing holiday with Lovat Cross. Many local folk will remember the family who lived here for several years before their move to the west. Whilst here they competed in the October quiz night in the village hall, with some success. It was here that the Dunlop's were introduced to the 200 Club.

Special Service

Under the auspices of Cupar Kirk Consultative Group, a special united service is to be held at Kemback Church on Sunday at 11 a.m. As a result there will be no service in Dairsie Church that day, as Dairsie members will join the congregations of Kemback, Ceres, and Springfield, together with representatives from Cupar churches as well. The idea behind this service is to increase the ties of friendship between church members in this area. To further develop the fellowship between members, a sandwich lunch will be available in the church hall in Dura Den after the service.

United Service

Kemback Church was packed on Sunday morning, when members of Dairsie, Kemback, Ceres and Springfield churches, together with some members of Cupar Old and St. John's united in worship at the service conducted by the Rev. Alex Strickland, who chose, appropriately, as his theme, @Neighbourliness'. The lesson was read by Rev. Alex Ross of Ceres Church, and Miss M Dymock of Cupar St. John's, who both expressed their gratitude at the welcome received. Rev. Ross leaves very soon, to take up the post of Executive Secretary of the Conference of European Churches in Brussels, and warm wishes were extended to him. After the service, many of the worshippers enjoyed the opportunity for fellowship in Kemback Church hall, where a sandwich lunch was served.

Coffee morning

Tonight (Friday), between 6-7 p.m. at the church hall, donations to the stalls are requested by the church fundraising committee. These gifts are for the annual coffee morning to be held at Cupar Corn Exchange on Saturday from 10 a.m. There will be the usual stalls, including home backing, plants, bric-a-brac, tombola and so on, and your support will be warmly welcomed.

Church and Community Newsletter

The August newsletter has been delivered so it is time to fill your diaries with all the dates of forthcoming events, and to be very appreciative of all the time and effort given to compiling the newsletter, with its cheery message of "Joy" from the minister, Rev. Alex Strickland.

Toddler Group

From birth to three years of age on Tuesday and Thursday morning from 10 a.m. - noon in the village Memorial Hall. Meetings are friendly, informal, and supportive, so if you are caring for a wee one - parent, grandparent or other, more information is available from Drew or Diane, or on the Dairsie website.

Church car park

Costs in maintaining the car park are inevitable. The church is happy that cars are parked there, thus reducing parking on the main road, but would warmly welcome a donation towards the costs.

Golden Wedding

Mr. and Mrs. Harry and Kate Glass, 35 Main Street, Dairsie, were over-whelmed at the surprise party arranged for them by their family to celebrate their 50 years of marriage. They were married in their hometown of Arbroath on August 22, 1953, and have lived in Dairsie for the past 17 years. They have three daughters and one son, and six grandchildren. The party was held in the Dairsie Memorial Hall, arranged by the family, who never let a word slip by even though all live fairly nearby. The family did all the catering themselves and were most impressed by the amenities provided by the village hall. Reflecting a major interest of the couple, and a cause of some delighted amusement, was the cake in the shape of a caravan, complete with wellies at the door! All the family were there, together with relatives, and a few childhood friends, making for a happy and memorable golden wedding celebration.

Coffee Morning

A busy morning at the Corn Exchange, Cupar on Saturday, with willing helpers manning the stalls, serving at the tables, and of course, washing-up! Dairsie Church fundraising committee thank all whom helped in any way, and are pleased to report that around £760 was raised for church funds.

Garden's Question Time

A walk around the village confirms how many enthusiastic gardeners there are, and all are welcome at the Gardener's Question Time to be held at the church hall on Monday at 7.30 p.m. Entrance £2, including tea and baking, with Willie Duncan, Drumeldrie, a well-known broadcaster, and Alastair Barnard from Community Services, Fife, as guest speakers, it will be an evening not to be missed. Go along with your questions ready, on house and garden plants.
