Community Council Issues

The community council is trying to establish ownership of the ground behind the school with a view to tidying up the area. Fife Council's environmental department have been contacted with a view to re-laying gravel on the Moonzie Burn path and provide better access for pushchairs, etc.

There is still concern about plastic bags of dog excrement being thrown into bushes at Vantage. This is an offence when dog bins are available nearby. Be warned that those responsible have been observed and could receive a visit from the dog warden.

Speeding is being monitored. The roads department has been contacted about providing extra road lines at the junction of Vantage and Main Street as cars are being parked dangerously close to the junction and causing problems for other drivers who are entering and exiting the area.

Allocation of funds; The Pitcairn Trust has received £60; Memorial Hall £115; and £25 has been given towards the cost of the parish newsletter.

Web site - this is being renewed for the next two years and is funded by the community council. Approximately 20 - 40 people are looking at the site every week (www.dairsie.or.uk). David and Owain May run the site and say there are many queries about families and people exploring old addresses.

Garages

Following on from last Friday's community council news, concerning the ownership of the garages in the Vantage, it is good to report that some helpful information has been given by local folk. This is currently being looked into, but if anyone else can say who is responsible for the upkeep of this very untidy area, please contact the community council chairman, Andrew Stevenson.

Social event

A friendly meeting takes place once a month in the church hall. Participants play whist, but this is definitely not for dedicated players - just a fun evening out. Monday's meeting was well supported, and anyone interested in joining this pleasant evening is advised to phone Willa Ferguson at the end of this month for the February date.

Church Guild

Members were pleased to welcome 14 children from P2/3/4 at Dairsie Primary School. Once a year, they come to give a presentation of songs and verse - always much enjoyed - and this year was as good as ever. Their teacher Mr. Kevin Cormack, with support from classroom assistant, Sandra Dillon, had trained them well, and there was no doubt though so well rehearsed, that they were enjoying themselves. Indeed, it transpired during the vote of thanks given by Mrs. Katharine Tomlinson, that the first rule of their teacher was 'Be quiet!' and they were certainly happy even though quiet. They started with each child standing tall and straight, whilst they gave their name, age and a special interest. Then followed action songs and verse speaking - in Scots, of course. They were well applauded, and then followed perhaps the best bit for them - unlimited juice and biscuits! After a cheery goodbye, with big thanks from both sides, a business meeting followed, at which plans were made for the coming months, and for the choice of charitable projects which members elected to support.
