Guild A.G.M.

The Annual General Meeting of Dairsie Parish Church Guild was held in the church hall on Monday, 26th April 2004. The President, Willa Ferguson, with a short act of worship - a hymn, a reading, and a prayer, opened the meeting. Then followed the usual reading of the minutes by the secretary, Barbara Fargie, and the treasurer's report given by Avril Paul. Both were approved as satisfactory. The president then gave her report on what had been a varied and interesting year She thanked the office bearers and members for their willing support, and then followed the election of the committee. Barbara Fargie regretfully resigned as secretary. The office bearers were elected as follows: President - Willa Ferguson: Secretary - Avril Paul: and Treasurer - Kathleen Innes-Smith.

Etta Rennie thanked the president for her tireless work, and Katharine Tomlinson thanked the secretary for her services through the years. After a welcome cup of tea, members spent some time giving suggestions for topics at future meetings, and dealt with other planning matters. The meeting concluded with the blessing.

Fiddler's Rally - Correction

Due to an oversight, it was not mentioned in last week's report that the Fife Strathspey and Reel Society presented the concert, and around 14 of their players entertained throughout the evening, and tribute is paid for their fine performance, which played such an important part in a good evening's entertainment.

Rich or Poor

The committee of Cupar group of churches held a special event for Christian Aid week in Dairsie church hall on Sunday afternoon. For £1, a cup of tea, and one item of food was offered. With one randomly issued ticket, there would be a slice of rich fruit loaf, but with the other, the fare was poorer, an oatcake only - bringing home to all the differences between the haves and have-nots in today's world. Fairtrade - the concern which guarantees that traders from Third World countries are given a fair price for their goods, was represented with a sales stall of fair-trade produce. Ticket sales raised £135, so it was a busy, well-supported event. It is hoped that there will be generous giving from the public as collectors call for donations this Christian Aid week - there is so much suffering, and so many in dire need, that all gifts are much needed, large or small.

Coffee Morning

The annual coffee morning on behalf of the Dairsie branch of the S.W.R.I. was held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday, 15th May. There were the usual sales stalls, including some very tempting home baking, and the plant stall, always an attraction at this time of year, when the weather improves, and the garden calls. Though not as busy as the ladies had hoped, all present enjoyed the friendly company, and the members thank warmly all who gave so generously, as the sum of £324.38 was raised. This will now be shared between the chosen charity of the year, and Dairsie senior citizen's Christmas treat.

Memorial Hall News
Quiz Night

It was wonderful to see so many new faces at the recent Quiz Night in Dairsie Hall. There were fourteen teams in the first of this year's quizzes, some well acquainted with our usual format, and some new to the whole occasion. Quizmaster Blair Littlejohn, who once again managed to compile a quiz with something for everyone, old or young, sport enthusiast or scientist, gave all a warm welcome. At the end of the ten rounds the team " Beam Me Up Pitscottie" were clear winners, with 79 points, and were presented with medals and the Trophy by Mrs. Morag Jones, chair of the hall committee. She also thanked everyone who had helped to organise the evening, and those who sponsored the rounds: - Jones Pharmacy, Edenbank Farm, Fiona Burnett, Dairsie Mini Mart, Margaret Roberts, Bruckley Farm, Sharif Suleiman, J. & E. Woodcock, Morag Jones and Woodaird Highland Cattle.
