Church News

The minister, the Rev. Alex. Strickland, led the worship at the Communion Service in Dairsie Church on Sunday, 6th June. He paid tribute to all those affected in any way by the D-Day landings 60 years ago. As it was Trinity Sunday, the minister made the Trinity the theme for his sermon.

Sunday Walk

The consultative committee for the six Cupar and District churches arranged for any church members to meet for a walk round Kemback and Blebo Craigs on Sunday afternoon. A cheery group gathered on a beautiful summer afternoon, and after a very enjoyable walk, they met in Kemback church hall for tea, a biscuit, and a chance to mingle with members of the other churches.

Primary School

The children organised the School Fete themselves, and it was much enjoyed by all. They wish to thank all who donated, and all who helped in any way, and were especially pleased to see so many village folk at the event. The excellent sum of around £450 was raised, and this is to be shared between three projects. The after-school gardening club sold plants they had grown, and will use the money they raised for further club activities: some will go towards a school outing to Blair Drummond Safari Park: and the very successful school football team plan to put their share towards a new football strip. Members of the school board who helped with the event would also like to add their warm thanks to all for their support.

School's Gold

The Schools Enterprise Programme is managed by Careers Scotland, and last year they ran an initiative over Fife, Tayside and Grampian to promote enterprising projects. Dairsie school pupils rose successfully to their challenge. These chose to make, promote and sell gift bags and greeting cards. The children drew various designs that they had printed. These were then sold at the school nativity play, and the monies raised were used by the children to choose books and equipment. On the 9th June, Jill Edwards, Chair of the School Board, took four pupils to represent the school at an award ceremony in Rothes Hall, where they were proud and delighted to receive a Gold Award.

Well done, Dairsie!

Church Car Park

Are you a Dairsie resident? Do you park your car regularly in the church-owned car park? Have you ever thought of the cost incurred on materials for it's upkeep? Have you ever considered making a donation to the church to help to cover the costs involved? Volunteers from the Church Board give their time willingly to care for the parking area, used for church functions, but also used by locals on a daily basis, and the church is pleased to permit this. Recently the area has been treated for weeds, and in the near future, the tall weeds at the roadside are to be chopped down and removed. The minister, or any member of the church board will gratefully receive donations.

Prizegiving

The children of Dairsie Sunday School joined the walk round Kemback on Sunday, 6th June. Their teacher, Avril Paul, accompanied them, and all had a great time on such a fine sunny afternoon. They were especially appreciative of the refreshing drink served afterwards in Kemback church hall! On Sunday, 13th June they were all in the church to receive their prizes for regular attendance through the past year. Prizes were awarded to Kim Dawson, Jean Black, Bethan Owen, Sarah Dawson, Hannah Ashcroft, and Stuart Dawson. Avril Paul thanked the children for their attendance, and looked forward to their return, perhaps with some of their friends, when Sunday school resumes in September. She also thanked Morag Jones for her help through the year. The minister thanked the teachers for all their hard work and dedication through the past year.

Guild Outing

Sixteen ladies from Dairsie Church Guild enjoyed their summer outing to Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse this week. Some had visited this National Trust for Scotland property before, but for the greater number it was for the first time, and they were delighted to find what a gem it is: not so big that it would have been tiring, and with a wide variety in the contents, so that there was something of interest to all. They were also very appreciative of the helpful and friendly welcome and information given by the guides. Some who knew the property well from previous visits chose to tour the gardens or enjoy the woodland walk. Of course the visit ended in the tearoom, where all enjoyed a tea with the baking all done on the premises. The only disappointment was that the rain came, so that those who had spent time in the house missed out on their intended tour of the garden.
