Baptism

On Sunday June 13th, the minister, The Rev. Alex. Strickland, baptised the infant son of Ewan and Hilary Findlay of Dairsie. The minister carried wee Hamish Macdougall down the aisle after the baptismal ceremony to present this new member to the whole congregation, which, in the packed church, included many very welcome families with young children. Then, as is the custom in Dairsie Church, the children of the Sunday School gave a posy of flowers.

Strawberry Tea

In the church hall this Sunday afternoon, 4th. July, between 2 and 4pm, there will be strawberries, meringues and cream, tea/coffee, and of course a friendly welcome - all for just £2. This is not just for church members - it is a community event, and all will be given a warm welcome.

Talented Musician

Tribute was paid in the church magazine "Life and Work" to Lewis Thomson, the regular and very talented organist in Dairsie church. Further information has come from Mrs. Janet Strickland than that which appeared in the magazine. His musical talent was apparent when he was only 2 years old, and by the time he was 4, he could pick out many tunes, and he was only 14 years of age when he was appointed organist in Dairsie.

He is now a student at St. Andrews University, reading for a B.Sc.(Hons) in Computer Sciences and German, but still makes time for his music, and has twice been awarded an organ bursary by the St. Andrews Presbytery to further his ability. That is not all - from the age of 8, he started to play the euphonium, and is now a player in the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland, and has twice won the John Malcolm Trophy at the Festival of Music. He is a well-liked and respected young man, and the church is very fortunate indeed to have his services.

Baptism

The infant son of David and Hayley Oram of the village of Tangmere, West Sussex was baptised Finlay John Maxwell by the Rev. Alex. Strickland in Dairsie Parish Church on Sunday, 4th July. Finlay is the grandson of Mrs. Maxwell, Osnaburgh Ct., so it was a coming home for his mother, Hayley.

Strawberry Tea

The ladies of the church Guild held a very happy and successful strawberry tea in the hall on Sunday afternoon. There was a sales table and plants for sale, and this annual event was very well supported, and raised the excellent sum of £420 for church funds.

Nora Kennedy

The funeral service for Nora Kennedy was held in Cupar on Tuesday, 6th July. Many long-standing residents of the village remember her, as a kind and gentle lady who lived in the village for many years, where she and her family were very involved in community activities. Her husband, Alex. Kennedy was session clerk to the church for a time. Later they moved to Troustrie, Crail, and more recently they moved to Cupar. Our thoughts are with the families at this sad time.

Reappraisal

For those many church members who are concerned about the future for the church after the retiral of the Minister in the spring, it has just been confirmed that members will be advised that a further meeting of the Church Reappraisal Committee will be called in August, at a date still to be arranged.

Archer for Scotland

It was a great achievement for disabled archer David Cowieson, when he was selected recently to represent Scotland in the able-bodied Scotland Archery team. He flew out to Galway, Southern Ireland, to compete in the Home Nations Championship held on the 3rd July 2004, and contested by England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Guernsey. The Scotland team overcame the difficult weather conditions of strong winds and heavy showers to finish in the silver medal position.

Speed Restrictions

On 9th July 2004, Fife Council displayed notices in the village "Dairsie Primary School Speed Limit Order" notifying a proposal to introduce changes to the current speed restrictions in the village. They are as follows:

a) "20mph limit on Ardencaple Terrace, Orchard Park, Woodville Park, and Osnaburgh Court.

b) Part-time 20mph limit on a section of the A91 Main Street. Appropriate traffic sign will indicate when it will apply.

c) 30mph limit on a section of the A91 Main Street.

The proposed order may be inspected at Fife House, Glenrothes, or in Cupar at the County Buildings".

Speeding vehicles have long been a problem in the village, and it is to be hoped that if approved, they will be firmly enforced.

Church Parade

Members of the 2nd Forfar Boys Brigade Company arrived at Logie for a week's camping on Saturday 10th July, and on Sunday, they were warmly welcomed to morning service in Dairsie Church by the Rev. John Cubie, who arranged the service with them in mind. The congregation are always pleased to see young folk in the Church.

Diabetes UK

The recent door-to-door collection raised the excellent amount of £119.94. This money is used for research into finding a cure for diabetes - a disease that affects so many individuals and their families. Many thanks to all who donated, and to the volunteer collectors, Mrs. Johnstone and Mrs. May.
