The Fife Herald has kindly given the Dairsie web site permission to copy the Dairsie News that is printed in the Fife Herald every week.
The Community Council met on Thursday, 22nd July in the Memorial Hall. Among the matters under consideration were the following:-
'Fife Council (Dairsie Primary School - Speed Limit) Order 2004'. (This Order is impose a part time speed limit on a section of the A91 Main Street - in the vicinity of the Primary School. Also to impose a 20 mph speed limit on Ardencaple Terrace, Orchard Park, Woodville Park and Osnaburgh Court.) In welcoming this 'Order' on the grounds of road safety, the Community Council suggested that 3-2-1 'Countdown Markers' should be put in place on the A91, in the 'lead in' at both entrances to the village; Also, it suggested that the Transportation Services (Roads) should give consideration to the need for a speed limit on that part of Station Road - between its junction with Main Street and the dangerous bend just beyond the Osnaburgh Court junction. It was also agreed that Fife Council's Transportation Services (Roads) should be asked to investigate what steps might be necessary to improve road safety at the approach to Dairsie Bridge. It was noted that an anonymous letter concerning a dangerous situation the writer had experienced by another car driver at the Pitscottie/Dura Den junction had been received by the Chairman. A copy had been forwarded to the Police and to Fife Council's Roads Department.
Anyone interested in a career in the Police Service as a Police Officer, or as a Special Constable, or in a civilian capacity should contact 01592 418842 for the necessary information.
It was noted that two new bus shelters are to be erected in Dairsie Main Street (North Side).
The Treasurer reported that the grant for the current year had been received. Present balances are - Current Account, £318.44, Savings Account, £298.27.
Various brochures and circulars were laid on the table.
The last meeting of the present Community Council will be held on Thursday, 23rd September at 7.30 pm in the village Memorial Hall. Nominations for the new Dairsie Community Council must be lodged at County Buildings, Cupar, not later than Thursday, 2nd September 2004, and if more than 8 nominations are received there will be a Postal Ballot to fill the 8 places.
"There will be fireworks at the hall on Saturday evening."
This considerate and thoughtful announcement appeared in the village shop, and enquiries revealed that the fireworks would be enjoyed during a wedding reception to be held at the village hall on Saturday, 7th August.
The sun shone on Cupar couple Shonagh MacGregor and Scott Barbour when the registrar conducted the marriage ceremony in Falkland Palace gardens, then all came through to the reception in Dairsie Memorial Hall.
Family and friends had bedecked the hall with candles, pink rosebuds, ivy and rose petals -it looked just beautiful! As the happy couple and guests arrived, they entered under the arch over the gate, which was festooned with ivy and large pink hydrangeas.
The invitations contained an unusual request - instead of wedding presents, guests were asked to supply a named item of food for the festive meal. Planned in this way, so that there was no duplication, it proved to be highly successful - the guests felt a personal involvement in the occasion, and there was a spread to delight all, laid out as an enticing, mouth-watering buffet.
Thanks are due to Blair Littlejohn and Sharif Suleiman for their services at the bar and to all family and friends who made this celebration such a success. The happy day was made complete with a ceilidh, and, of course, the promised fireworks.
The church and community newsletter is always welcome, with a message from the minister, and with village news to keep us all up-to-date. School holidays are over, and cheery children's voices are heard as they return to school. There are to be four new pupils this term, and they are wished many happy and fruitful days as they begin this new chapter in their lives.
Forthcoming events for our diaries-to be noted NOW if not recorded already, are:
The annual church coffee morning is to be in the Corn Exchange, Cupar on Saturday, 28th August from 10 to 11.30am. Anyone in the village who can supply items for the sale - (usual stalls)- is asked to hand them in at the church hall on Friday evening between 6 and 7pm. and there is a special plea for home baking, which is always so much in demand at the sale. Any church member will be happy to accept gifts, if the Friday collection is not convenient, and of course, do go to the sale on the Saturday.
The only other reminder for August is that there will be No service in Dairsie on Sunday, 29th August. Instead, members and friends will be welcome at Cupar Old Parish Church at 10am for a united service organised by the Cupar Kirk Session Consultative Group to bring together Dairsie, Kemback, Ceres & Springfield, Cupar St. John's and Cupar Old churches, and there will be "Brunch" to follow for those who can stay to enjoy the informal get-together.
