Holy Communion will be celebrated this Sunday, 5th September at 10am in Dairsie Parish Church.
The result of the most recent quiz, compiled for the Church Guild, was announced at the August coffee morning. It had proved to be quite a challenge, and the successful winner was Mrs. Anderson of Cupar. The last coffee morning of the season is on Thursday, 9th September in the church hall at 10am.
The Corn Exchange was a lively bustle of activity on Saturday morning - from the rush of folk poised ready for the doors to open, right through to the end, it was busy, busy! Dairsie Church Fundraising Committee thank the very many helpers and those whose support gave an even better result than last year, with £801.46 raised towards church funds.
Dairsie church members joined with members from Cupar Old, St. Johns, Ceres, Springfield and Kemback churches at the service in Cupar Old on Sunday. Conducted by the minister, Dr. Ken. Jeffrey, the highly topical theme was the Olympic Games. Dairsie folk found the change from the more accustomed format stimulating and enjoyable. There was a fine female singer to lead the sometimes unfamiliar songs: musicians on guitar, piano etc. to accompany: and a welcome from the full church for the children, who arrived to take part in their special version of the Olympic Games.
A great number of worshippers took the opportunity to adjourn to the church hall for brunch after the service. There were gasps at the laden tables awaiting them, and the Dairsie minister, the Rev. Alex. Strickland, expressed warm thanks to the hosts on behalf of all the visitors for the generous hospitality, and for the fellowship shared.
After the summer break, the Sunday School resumes from this Sunday, 12th September at 10am. The children who already belong would be delighted if more joined them, for an interesting and enjoyable hour.
Thursday, 23rd September at 7.30pm in the church hall - the date has now been fixed for the long-awaited next meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Parish Reappraisal Committee, when they will present the latest news on the future proposals for Dairsie Parish Church and the linkage, when the minister retires next spring. This could be of great importance, and it is hoped there will be a big turn-out of members.
The final meeting of the current council is to be on Thursday, 23rd September at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall. A new council can be appointed then, as it is understood that there have been sufficient nominations. All are welcome at this meeting.
However, as there are some who would wish to attend both meetings, it is unfortunate that the meeting arranged by the Presbytery Consultative Committee to discuss the latest proposals on the future of Dairsie Church, is to be held on the same evening in the church hall.
A special meeting was called to hear the minister, Rev. Alex. Strickland and his wife Janet, talk to members about their memories of around 23 years in the parish. Janet spoke first, recalling the move with daughter, Elizabeth aged 7, and the twins Emma and Alistair aged 5. The Manse, it's good and less good points: problems with the pump from the well: the fire and their "interesting" choices of things to save! But most of all their joy at having a happy united family. Alex. spoke of many special memories, with a highlight the gift of new robes to celebrate 10 years service in the linkage. They have a new home in Dundee, but the move is not until next year, and in her thanks, the President looked forward to keeping in touch, and more memories, with many a smile, continued over refreshments.
Winners of the September draw of the Dairsie War Memorial 200 Club were: H.B.Littlejohn-£20: D. May-£10: C.Owen-£5. All are local folk.
On Sunday, 19th September, the Guild re-dedication service was held in Dairsie Church. Members of the Guild were at the door to give a friendly welcome; others took the collection; the lessons were read by Willa Ferguson and Etta Rennie; and the minister, the Rev. A. Strickland, chose the Guild's "Dare to care with compassion" as his theme. Refreshments and cheery chat followed in the church hall.
At the Guild meeting on Monday evening, Mrs. Linda Johnstone was introduced by Mrs. Muirhead,a pupil at her classes on "Lip Reading". Mrs. Johnstone is a "Lip readuig tutor to deaf adults", and members heard much valuable advice on how to communcate comfortably with the deaf and hard of hearing. Members heard tapes on how our speech hears to them, and attempted to lipread, with little success! She was thanked by Mrs. Innes-Smith for her most helpful talk.
