"Music in May" was the theme of the Flower Festival held in Dairsie Church over the weekend, and what a delightful show it proved to be. The hours spent planning, thinking up creative ways of presenting the theme, and then, in some cases, days building the stands and finally arranging the flowers, were hours well-spent. Each exhibit had so much to discover; the colours; the arrangements; and the artefacts chosen with such care; resulted in very many heartfelt compliments. There was tea and biscuits to follow, and a sales table, and all who gave in any way are thanked, but special thanks must go to the floral artists. They were members of Dairsie Church, some ladies from Cults and Ceres returning help given at their show, and in particular, the ladies of the Floral Art class at the Forgan Arts Centre, who were happy to use their new skills with the support of their tutor, Peggy Reid, who also created a display herself.
The Cupar Area of the Consultative Group of Churches is organising a walk this Sunday.5th. June. It is a chance to meet up with members from the other churches, and is promised to be not too challenging. If interested, meet at Kemback Church car park at 2.15pm. Tea will be served in Dairsie Church Hall from 3pm.
Five or six children of different age groups have formed a Mini-board, which represents the pupils. This has been going for some time, and they met today (Tuesday) to finalise the arrangements for a School Fete, to be held on Friday, 10th June from 4 to about 6pm. Now the children would like the support of local folk, to come along to their event; to buy the plants the Gardening Club have raised; there will be the usual sales, for which items will be most welcome; and for the children, games are planned, which should be fun for all to watch.
The recent collection for Christian Aid raised the sum of £208.26. Convener, Willa Ferguson, thanks all who gave so generously, and the collectors Helen Horsburgh, Yoko Littlejohn, Anne Brown, Hazel Smith, Anna Duff and Betty Birrell.
At a Presbytery Service in Dairsie Parish Church on Thursday, 2nd June, the parishes of Dairsie and Cupar were formally 'linked', and the Rev. Sheila Blount, presently Minister of Cupar St. John's, was introduced as the Minister of Dairsie in this newly linked charge. The Moderator of the Presbytery of St. Andrews, the Rev. Colin Dempster, led the worship, welcoming a large congregation of members of Presbytery, elders and members from both churches, and friends. The Bible readings were given by Mr. Alex. Lorimer, Session Clerk, Dairsie; the 'Narrative' by the Presbytery Clerk; and the 'Act of Linking' by the Moderator. Thereafter the Rev. Sheila Blount, having taken the appropriate vows, was introduced as the Minister of the Linked Charge. After the service, tea and some splendid home baking from the linked charges was served, giving those present an opportunity to welcome the Minister informally.
The Safari Supper is to be on Saturday, 18th June, meeting at Dairsie Church Hall at 6.30pm. There will be a welcoming drink, all will be given their planned venues for each of the three courses, then the evening ends with a return to the hall for coffee/tea. Tickets are only £10, obtainable from Carol Owen.
On Sunday, 5th June, the Communion Service was conducted by the Rev. Sheila Blount, her first service after her appointment to the new linkage. Service as usual at 9.30 next week, but the following Sunday, 19th June, there will be no service in Dairsie. Instead, a joint service will be held in Cupar St. John's at 11am to mark the linkage.
On Wednesday, 15th June, David May and Blair Littlejohn were invited to attend the Tayport Local Plan Action Group meeting and to join in the discussion about opposition to the Fife Council Local Plan. The views of Dairsie residents who attended the recent meeting in the Memorial Hall were briefly reported on, as were those of Springfield and Newburgh through their representatives. Unfortunately the Guardbridge Representative was unable to attend.
As expected, opposition to the proposed unnecessary large increase to the housing stock, coupled with a corresponding increase to the population in N.E.Fife, was the main topic of discussion, coupled with the way communities could register their displeasure at these Fife Council proposals.
Several high profile events are being considered to show our displeasure, and further meetings will be arranged. Anyone who would like further information about this meeting and the future proposals, or who would like to help, please contact either David or Blair.
The children of Dairsie Primary School have been very busy of late, and have sent in the details.
