Church News

The Coffee Morning and Sale in the Corn Exchange, Cupar on Saturday, 27th August was well supported, and the committee wish to thank all who supported the event. There is always much planning and hard work for such an event to be successful, and of course, those who give donations for the stalls, or are there to enjoy the occasion - all are needed, and on Saturday, all enjoyed themselves, and a welcome £680 was raised for Dairsie Church funds.

A Reminder

Holy Communion will be celebrated in Dairsie Church this Sunday, 4th September at 9.30 am.

Primary School

The children and new headteacher, Mrs. Linda Birtwhistle, are all settling in to the beginning of the school year. A busy programme is planned, of which more news another week, but meantime there is an especial welcome to the nine new admissions to P1 - a most welcome increase to the school roll.

Dairsie SWRI

  • Flower of the month - 1st. Alison Johnstone, 2nd. Ann Brown.

    Quiz Night

More teams of up to four people will be welcome at the Quiz Night on Saturday, 1st. October at 7.30pm. A fun evening, held in the Memorial Hall, there will be a bar, a raffle, and sandwiches served halfway. £5 per team, and sponsors offering £10 for a round of questions would be appreciated. To book tables, or to sponsor, contact Morag Jones - Tel. 870984.

    Archer to represent Britain

Congratulations to Disability Sport Fife Archer, David Cowieson, Osnaburgh Court on his selection to represent Britain at the world championships for disabled archers, which will be held in Italy from September 24th to October 4th. David is an active member of Cupar Bowmen.

    Community Council

A Questionnaire has been delivered to all householders in the village. It asks us all to respond to Fife Council's Strategic Plan, which sets out a proposal to build 70 new houses in Dairsie. For the Community Council to represent OUR views, it is vital that every household completes the form, if a fair presentation of our views is to be given. They are to be collected by this Sunday, 25th September - if you do not complete it, you cannot complain later!

The next Community Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, (not Thursday) 12th October in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm. It is hoped that a member of Fife Council's Transportation Department will be in attendance.

Following several complaints from residents that some dog owners are continuing to be irresponsible, the Dog Warden is being extra vigilant. Two witnesses are required for a prosecution, but the dog warden would like to hear of any suspected culprits, who could be approached informally and warned.

    Primary School

An energetic weekend awaits the pupils, staff and parents from Dairsie Primary School as they prepare to participate in a sponsored skip on behalf of the British Heart Foundation. The 'Jump Rope for Heart' challenge will take place at the school tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am until noon, and will involve each person skipping for two minutes at a time in a round robin. To aid the skippers on their way, refreshments will be available. 75% of funds raised will go directly to the British Heart Foundation, with the remaining 25% being used to provide playground equipment for the school. Anyone interested in participating will be most welcome on the day. We would like to extend a special thank you to David and Jakki Pitblado who have very kindly donated a playhouse for use by the children in the playground. Not only did they donate the playhouse but also erected it for us during the summer holidays. A competition was held within the school to design the decoration for the playhouse. This was won by Gemma Crowe and Robert Easton.

    Skipping Marathon

Saturday's event at Dairsie Primary School was a great success. Adults and children were having a great time skipping away, and the two hours just flew past. Too early to say how much was raised for the British Heart Foundation and the 25% for the school, but there is no doubt that the exercise was good for all, and fun too! Well done - all the energetic, enthusiastic participants and the school for organising the event!

    Church Guild

The Guild Dedication service is to take place this coming Sunday, 2nd October - usual worship time 9.30am.

    Harvest Thanksgiving

The harvest service will be on Sunday, 9th October at 9.30am in Dairsie Church. Some traditional harvest gifts and flowers to decorate the church will be welcome, but this year envelopes are available, and there will be a collection at the service. Harvest gifts have usually been sold after the service in the hall, but due to the repair work now ongoing there, this will not be possible. All donations will go towards the work of Christian Aid.
