A fine sunny morning and local folk came to give their support to their hall. It was a busy hour with sales stalls, raffle and tombola, as well as a Youth Club stall to help their fund-raising for a residential visit of challenging outdoor activities. Coffee, pancakes or scones with jam and a cheery chat, made for a very happy hour. The chairwoman of the Hall Committee expressed warmest thanks to the many folk who had come along to give their support. She also thanked the committee for their hard work for the coffee morning and throughout the year. They are delighted to report that £365.27 was raised for hall funds.
It is just a fun evening, nothing too challenging, and the hall committee would welcome more bookings - tables for parties of four folk are just £5. Bring your friends. To book or for more information contact Morag Jones or Carol Owen.
Fife Council has now approved the plans for a major building programme in Fife, and this could affect the village, with more housing and possibly increased road traffic as a result of the proposed Cupar bypass. The group "Protect Rural East Fife" is continuing its protest against these proposals, which now go to the Scottish Executive. Concerns, for whatever reason, should go to our MSP, Ian Smith or MP, Menzies Campbell, who has now, we understand, given his support to the campaign.
The AGM was held on 1.5.2006 in the Church Hall. Members were welcomed by the President, Willa Ferguson. The minutes were presented by the secretary, Avril Paul, and were approved. The treasurer, Kathleen Innes-Smith, presented her report - finances are satisfactory. The President reported a busy and happy year, and thanked office bearers and members for their support throughout the year. The office bearers were unanimously re-elected, and then the President invited Jim Anderson, a member of Dairsie church, to entertain, and all thoroughly enjoyed his singing of Scottish songs, which he accompanied on keyboard or guitar, many of which members could join in. His readings of poems by Robert Service and Rabbie Burns altogether made it a very happy evening.
Collectors will be out in Christian Aid week, which starts on Sunday. It is hoped all will give generously as there are so many folk throughout the world who are suffering grievously, as we see daily on our televisions, hear on the radio or read of in the newspapers.
Welcomed warmly by the President were members from "Cults Rural" who had been invited to entertain at the May meeting. Mary Hutchison sang delightfully, giving great pleasure with her unaccompanied Bothy Ballads and stories and readings in the Doric. These were interspersed with first a general knowledge quiz, and a second quiz on the theme of "Sweeties". Both were created and presented by Aileen Lawson, and were much enjoyed despite the groans!
Competition winners were: Butterfly cake - 1st Rhoda Dewar; 2nd Janette Armes. Flower of the month - 1st Willa Ferguson; 2nd Janette Armes.
The Staff and pupils of Dairsie Primary School are offering to fill hanging baskets for anyone interested - great practice for little green fingers. Please telephone and leave your name and number and a member of the School Board will contact you.
Information is being gathered on known rights of way in Dairsie Parish. Jill Edwards is pursuing the topic and would like to hear any comments about rights of way or other paths.
The possibility of Dairsie entering for this in 2007 is being considered. The Community Council would like to gauge opinion and is looking for people interested in being part of a subcommittee to progress this.
This is still flashing after several contacts with Fife Council.
Comments on any of above to Secretary of the Community Council, Elizabeth Woodcock.
Thirteen teams, some local, others from slightly further afield, competed in the Quiz Night run by the hall committee. As always it was a great night out, with much enthusiasm, groans and laughter! The questions were set by Blair Littlejohn; there was a wide range of subjects: and the eventual winners were The Bandits, welcome visitors with local connections. The committee are delighted at the support, and the event raised £446 for hall funds.
Members of Dairsie "Rural" submitted a display at the Fife Federation Show in the Corn Exchange in which the theme was "Farmhouse Kitchen." The presentation comprised a tea cosy, Fife bannock, apple and cinnamon pie, plum jam, cook's apron and a decorated notice board, and members were delighted to be awarded 3rd prize in the "Small Rural" category.
