Annual Coffee Morning

It was a busy time at the church coffee morning in the Corn Exchange on Saturday. The hall filled up quickly with eager bargain hunters, and in no time at all the generous amount of home baking was in delighted hands, and the other stalls were well supported too. With unlimited tea/coffee and friends to chat to, the noise level rose, but the outcome was welcome funds for Dairsie Church, exact figure not yet known, but definitely a little higher than last year. A big thank you is given to all who gave their support.

Communion Sunday

The sacrament of the Lords supper will be celebrated in Dairsie Church this Sunday, 3rd September at 9.30am. There will be a retiring offering at this service.

200 Club

Winners of the August draw of the War Memorial Hall 200 Club were: K. Tomlinson - £20; J. Baker - £10; and M. Turnbull - £5.

SWRI

Among all the regular activities now resuming in the village for the winter season is the meeting of the "Rural" tonight, Friday at 7.30pm. It is an Open Meeting - All welcome, including men, with what should be an interesting and instructive talk by a Fire Officer.

New Residents

A warm welcome to the recent incomers to the village and it is hoped that they will find the Parish Newsletter of interest, and that they will enjoy living in the village, and will find time to take part/support some of its ongoing activities.

Church News

The Rev. Sheila Blount led the worship on Sunday with the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. A retiring collection was held on behalf of the charity for the homeless "Shelter", and then there was an opportunity for fellowship in the church hall when tea/coffee was served.

It was announced that Sunday school will resume on Sunday 17th September at 9.30am, and thereafter once a month on the third Sunday. All children are welcome, from tiny through primary school, and it is the hope that if more children come along and volunteers to assist, that the meetings could be more frequent.

SWRI News

Meetings resumed on first Friday of the month. Speaker from Fire Service cancelled - unwell, so some of our own members entertained with a dress rehearsal for the presentation they have prepared for Balmullo SWRI. It was a tour of Scotland, with traditional crafts and music of the different regions, and talents shown were much appreciated and enjoyed.

Competition winners were: Raspberry jam - 1st Anne Brown, 2nd Audrey Fenion; Flower of the month - 1st Kath Tomlinson, 2nd Anne Brown.

Home with a Gold

Chris McCall of Dairsie had a good measure of success in the fencing at the UK School Games in Glasgow at the weekend. These games are hopefully finding entrants for the adult Olympic Games in the future, and the young competitors show huge dedication to their chosen sport.

On Sunday, the 4-man Scottish epee team, of which Chris was one, came away with the well deserved gold medal.

A close fought semi-final against an exceedingly strong Welsh team went to a winning hit in the last 22 seconds: then in the final against England, it was a clearer win of 45 - 36.

Chris made a less sure start in the individual event on the Saturday, and he was eventually put out 12-15 by the Welsh 4th seed.

Warmest congratulations go to Chris and the team, and a mention is due for all the other young folk who were also there competing in their chosen sport.

Open Evening

The Kingdom Singers are coming to Dairsie Church on Monday evening, 25th September at 7.30pm. This promises to be a delightfully varied programme from the mixed choir of around twenty singers. The event is to offer a welcome to all, not just for church members. There will be light refreshments to follow, and there is no charge for admission.

Anti-Social Behaviour

It was built to the memory of the 14 men of the Parish of Dairsie, who lost their life in the Great War of 1914 - 18. In an act of unselfish gratitude, James Logan of Dairsie Mains Farm donated the land, and the villagers raised an incredible £2,000 the cost of building the Dairsie War Memorial Hall.

And now it is being regularly vandalised. No sooner had Blair Littlejohn replaced two windows than another one was broken. This time, another expensive double glazed unit. A further two are also badly cracked and will need replacing. Fan exhaust covers have been broken, a shed vandalised, and it is also being used as a shelter for under-age smoking.

Over the past few months other moronic crass acts of vandalism have seen bottles broken at the school, the rubbish bin at the school set on fire, a fence kicked until broken, and graffiti in the bus shelter. Even a window in the church was broken.

It is time this anti-social behaviour was stamped out, there is no place for it in our community. So your help is needed. If you see something being vandalised, take a note of all details and either report it direct to the police or give details to Blair. Fun is fun, but this has gone past a joke. Please help stop this unacceptable behaviour now.

Street Lighting

All the existing street lighting columns in the Main Street are to be replaced, and initially they will be erected next to the existing lights. The result will inevitably cause some disruption, with traffic lights to assist traffic flow, whilst ensuring a safe working environment for the operatives. All households on the Main Street have been notified of the possible eight weeks of disruption to traffic flow, and effect on them. However, all in the village are likely to be affected, but Fife Council Transportation Services hope to keep the disruption to a minimum, and they advise that any questions regarding the works should be addressed to Lynne Davidson on 412020.

Kingdom Singers

You are reminded of the treat in store, when this choir comes to the church on Monday evening, the 25th, at 7.30pm. All are assured of a warm welcome, and a good evening's entertainment.

200 Club

Winners of the September draw of the Dairsie Memorial Hall 200 Club are: A.A.Brown - £20; Dairsie Inn - £10; J. Anderson - £5.

Guild Dedication

The minister the Rev. Sheila Blount will be leading the worship on Sunday, at which the Guild will be rededicated prior to the commencement of the new season's meetings. All are reminded that the Guild welcomes all, male and female, to its meetings, which are usually held in the church hall on the 3rd Monday of each month.

Kingdom Singers

Were you there - in the church on Monday evening? If so, you will know that it was a great evening of song. If not, you missed a real treat! The (sadly) small audience were taken on a world-wide journey of music - from Scotland of course, with the Dashing White Sergeant, Scots Wha Hae and others; to America for the Blue Suede Shoes of Elvis fame; to a piano recital of Schubert's (or was it Schumann, I can't remember?) and soloists and choir thoroughly enjoying their wide variety of love songs and so much more, ending with a sing-a-long as the audience enthusiastically joined a "Summer Holiday" to Spain etc. With their lively and skilled choirmaster, Margaret Orr to lead them, the choir gave to all a truly joyous evening. We also learnt that this Dunfermline-based choir have performed widely for charity, helping to raise much needed funds, whilst giving so much pleasure at the same time.
