The Fife Herald has kindly given the Dairsie web site permission to copy the Dairsie News that is printed in the Fife Herald every week.
Dairsie Church return, at least for the winter, to the very welcome 10am start this Sunday, 5th November.
The AGM will be held today, 3rd November at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall. After the short business meeting, Gilston "Rural" will entertain - all welcome.
The volunteers are collecting door to door this week so that those who have served the country are remembered and can be helped in case of need. There will be a short Act of Remembrance at Dairsie War Memorial Hall on Sunday, 11th November at 2pm. All, of any faith or of none, are welcome at this tribute as the wreath is placed at the memorial plaque at the hall.
As the weather turns colder, why not pop along to the Memorial Hall on Saturday, 18th November between 12 and 1pm when the hall committee will be holding the "Winter Warmer" serving home made soup and bread, followed by tea /coffee and a biscuit. If you are new to the village, you will be specially welcomed at this cheery event.
The short Act of Remembrance was led by the Rev. Sheila Blount at the War Memorial Hall on Sunday afternoon. This is arranged by Dairsie SWRI to give all local folk, of any faith or none, to have the opportunity to share their thoughts and memories with others. This year the wreath was hung on the memorial plaque by Helen Horsburgh.
A Quiz, organised by the committee of the Pitcairn Trust, is being offered to all to support the Pitcairn Trust in organising a community event in the village next year. Pitcairn Park (Dairsie's own green space) was donated by a local benefactor and is managed, on our behalf, by members of the community. The hope is that money generated by such events will enable them to fulfil the wishes of the community by funding further facilities in the park. So now it is - Where will we find out the answers to this quiz about the village and it's history? ENJOY.
Annual winners of the competitions were as follows. There were three joint winners of the Rose Bowl for most points gained in the year in the competitions, and so each in turn will hold the bowl during the year. They are: Mary Booth; Rhoda Dewar; Audrey Fenion. Most points for flower of the month - Willa Ferguson.
A cold day, but a cheerful welcome awaited those who went along to the annual soup lunch at the Memorial Hall last Saturday. There were about five choices of soup available, all made by members of the hall committee or by friends, and served fine and hot along with bread and butter and tea/coffee to follow. There was a raffle, with generous prizes donated, and the tickets for the Christmas hamper, always groaning with goodies, were drawn and there was much delight from the winner, Marion Smith, who was there to receive most of her prize with the perishables to be delivered nearer Christmas. The Winter Warmer raised £265 and sales of tickets for the hamper a further £59, and President Morag Jones thanked all who gave their support so willingly to keep the Hall going. It belongs to the village and so is dependent on local efforts.
The November draw of the War Memorial Hall 200 Club was held at the Winter Warmer, instead of at the more usual Wednesday Afternoon club. Winners were - Blair Littlejohn - £20; Helen Horsburgh - £10; Mary Lorimer - £5.
