The new puffin pedestrian crossing was operational and fully commissioned on January 19th. The street lighting is almost complete and other signage is due to be completed soon. There were difficulties with the A91 being a traffic sensitive route and causing restricted hours of working. Please reserve any judgement until everything is up and running.
There is a problem with visibility and sightlines when entering and exiting the eastern end of Osnaburgh Court. Fife Council is undertaking improvements to the approach of this junction from Dairsie Bridge which involves the erection of a new junction warning sign, replacement of 30 signs with yellow-backed signs and layering of red surfacing 'gateway' on the approach to the bend. All of these measures are to highlight the location of a junction and the approach to a built-up area and to encourage drivers to reduce their speed.
The Fife Structure Plan, which includes proposals to build 70 houses in Osnaburgh Court will probably be sent to a Public Enquiry. This could take a very long time and impacts on the Draft Local Plan which proposes between 10 and 30 houses in Osnaburgh Court. The Local Plan and Structure Plan are intertwined and there appears to be a 'muddle zone' creating confusion regarding which Plan should be worked from. The Community Council continues to monitor this.
A previous article in the Dairsie Column recently under the heading of Community Council was the view of an individual and was not submitted by the Secretary. Leaflets delivered to houses were not authorised by the Community Council.
Worship on Sunday 28th January was led by the Rev. David Sinclair He has been appointed as Interim Moderator until the return of our minister, the Rev Sheila Blount, who is absent due to illness.
The AGM of Dairsie War Memorial Hall is to be held in the committee room of the hall on Thursday 15th February at 7.30pm. All are welcome.
The speaker at the February meeting was Sheila Foster, who after a short introduction on the value of regular exercise, soon had the ladies stretching and bending, in movements designed to work different muscles, all done sitting well supported on chairs. Her exercises are based on a variety of disciplines, including Tai Chi, Yoga, and Pilates. She was thanked by the President, who hoped that other members would join those already going to the classes available in Cupar. After refreshments, the competition winners were announced.
Flower of the month: 1st Alice Johnstone; 2nd Agnes Jeffs. Knitted scarf: 1st Agnes Jeffs; 2nd Rhoda Dewar.
The new crossing is in use and very welcome. However, it has been noticed that vehicles are pulling up to go into the post office/shop and parking on the marked 'NO PARKING' chevron area directly outside the shop. This blocks the pedestrians view as they go onto the crossing, so is a real hazard. As we are very fortunate that access to the shop is hardly changed by the siting of the crossing, it is hoped that this potentially dangerous practice will soon stop.
