As it is anticipated that our minister, the Rev. Sheila Blount, will be unable to return to her duties for at least another two months, the Rev. Gareth Davies, has been appointed as locum minister. From this Sunday, he will conduct the services at Dairsie and St. John's, Cupar, and also will spend two days each week on pastoral duties. The Rev David Sinclair, will continue as Interim Moderator, and anyone requiring the services of a minister should contact him.

SWRI News

Mrs. J. Armes presided at the meeting on Thursday, 26th April, and welcomed members and guests.

Mr. W Balfour from Elmwood College was introduced, and he gave a most interesting Cookery Demonstration. First was Paella, a traditional Spanish fish dish, this time using salmon with herbs, which can be cooked indoors, or on a barbecue. To follow, he showed a simple pudding of a blend of yoghurt, crushed meringues and summer fruits. Mrs. Armes thanked him warmly, and refreshments followed served by M. Boath and A. Fenion. There is still one seat left on the proposed outing to the Trossachs.

Competition Winners were:- Muffins: 1st - A. Brown, 2nd - M. Boath. Flower of the month: 1st - A. Johnstone, 2nd - H. Horsburgh.

Dairsie Memorial Hall

The hall continues to be used frequently by members of the community for a variety of functions. Last weekend, a wedding reception for Mr & Mrs R Watts was attended by about 55 people who danced the evening away to a ceilidh band. This Saturday, family and friends will gather to celebrate the 90th birthday of Mrs Panton. Everyone invited is looking forward to this momentous event and to wish Mrs Panton well.

Unfortunately, the blossom on the three trees in front of the hall have started to fall, but were they not glorious this year? Certainly the best for several years.

Later in the month on the 26th, the first of the year's quiz nights will take place. These are good, fun evenings, and the quiz is almost coincidental to the social aspect of the event. Why not go along and join the fun? Tables can now be booked through Carol Owen or Blair Littlejohn for what is a bargain at only £5. Alternatively, if you would like to sponsor a round of Questions, just pas £10 to either of the above - it is that simple!

Guild AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Dairsie Church Guild was held in the church hall on 30th April 2007. The meeting opened with a hymn, reading and a prayer. The President, Willa Ferguson, presented an outline of the agenda, and invited the Treasurer, Kathleen Innes-Smith, to give her report. There is a satisfactory balance, even following some generous donations to charity. The President gave her report, which covered the events of the past year, during which members had enjoyed an interesting, stimulating and enjoyable year - following the theme of the body, with the coming year to move on to the Mind, from the "Body, Mind and Spirit" designated to be the theme over three years. The President and Treasurer were re-elected; a secretary to be appointed later. Etta Rennie took the minutes of the meeting. A Questionnaire from the Presbyterial Council was completed, and then there was a general discussion on topics for the coming year, and the arrangements for the Rich and Poor Tea. Thanks were expressed to the President for her dedicated service through the year, and to the Treasurer for her report.

Rich and Poor Tea

On Sunday 13th May, at the beginning of Christian Aid Week, it is the turn of Dairsie Church to host the annual Rich and Poor Tea. Admission is £1, and those who have not already purchased their tickets can do so at the door. For those new to this event, the intriguing title may need clarification. Participants find that tickets are in one of two colours, chosen at random, and when presented, they will find that one colour will direct you to a richer tea, the other to a simpler one, symbolising the riches or poverty of the world. Thus they are a reminder of the contrast between rich and poor, and the work being done by Christian Aid and other welfare organisations, to help those in need. Do pop along to Dairsie Church Hall between 3 and 4 pm, and take your chance on which tea your ticket will provide for you, and of course, your donation will help this great cause. There will be a Fair Trade stall.

Quiz Night

Are you planning to form a team to take part in the Quiz night on 26th May at 7pm? It is just £5 for a team of four people to book a table, for what is above all a great social evening. Sponsors who could offer £10 to cover the cost of a round of questions would be most welcome. To book a table or to offer to sponsor a round, please contact Carol Owen or Blair Littlejohn. Funds raised go to the upkeep of the Memorial Hall, so please give your support if you can.

Park Gates

The Pitcairn Park has had new and very smart gates installed at the entrance by the garage. What a boon they are, as parents can now know that their children will be reminded of the need for care as they exit on to the Main Road, with its frighteningly fast traffic. Hopefully, they will slow the usual headlong speed at which the children usually move!

Christian Aid

The Rich and Poor Tea, which was held this year in Dairsie Church, was a pleasant afternoon of friendship and lively chat. Members of the six churches in the Cupar Presbytery gave their support, to the tea and to the Fairtrade stall. Despite a dismal, damp afternoon, £82 was raised for Christian Aid, the charity which supports so many people in need.
