Saturday's Quiz Night at the War Memorial Hall was well attended with 17 teams taking part. The concensus of opinion was that it was a friendly, fun, and enjoyable night which saw new faces, some from as far afield as St Andrews, mix well with the usual local ones. The questions, this time compiled by Carol Owen and Margeret Roberts, were as usual asked by Blair Littlejohn in his own particular fashion and his jokes brought the usual number of groans from the players. The winners were Brian and Donna Hanlon, Main Street, who had coupled up with the new owners of Edenbank Farm house, Chris and Susan Smith. Chris and Susan have only been here a couple of weeks and already are making an impression. The champagne, kindly donated by Liz Woodcock, was won by the team captained by Anne McPherson, who used to live in Main Street. All proceeds from the evening will be used to maintain the hall and in her summing up, Carol thanked everyone for attending and for making the evening such a success.
The recent door-to-door collection in Dairsie and District raised the welcome sum of £397.70, and the organizer thanks all the collectors and those who gave so generously. Help goes to the poorest communities in over 50 countries, all helped to grow their way out of poverty by Christian Aid and around 600 partner organizations.
Winners of the May draw of the Dairsie War Memorial 200 Club draw were all local folk. They were: L. Band - £20; O. May - £10; and J. Westcott - £5.
A reminder that Sunday 3rd June is the Celebration of Holy Communion, and worship will be conducted by the Rev. Gareth Davies.
Any interested in joining the walk are to meet up with members of the other churches in the group at Kemback car park at 2pm. Tea will be served in the church hall at 3pm after the walk.
A large and very welcome contingent came to the June meeting from Carnbee "Rural." They were welcomed by the President, and then Dairsie members settled back to enjoy a presentation of the many talents of the Carnbee ladies. First, a talk and display of long stitch tapestry and cross stitch work, followed by a demonstration of making an unusual gift box. Then a challenging Quiz, causing many laughing moans! There were three soloists, with keyboard accompaniment, interspersed with two humorous sketches - one a conversation in a Garden Centre, written by a member - the other a lugubrious Dr. Jolly monologue. Recovering from her laughter, the President expressed thanks and admiration at the talents displayed. Refreshments followed and the judging of the competitions.
Winners were: Flower of the month - 1st Willa Ferguson; 2nd Kath Tomlinson. Soft toy - 1st Marion Smith; 2nd Janette Armes.
Walking through Pitcairn Park, your correspondent was disappointed to notice cans and paper littered around. There is a bin - are the litter louts too weak to carry their rubbish even such a short distance? Time to remind the young folk as outdoor activities start up again?
From the great photograph in the Fife Herald supplement last week, five P7 pupils are going on to Senior School next week - we wish them well at this new challenge.
The summer outing of the Guild was voted one of the best in spite of the unkind weather! Members went to Cults Church by Pitlessie, and most had anticipated a short visit, as there would be no guide to inform. However, with our own reference books and a mass of information in the church, it was an absorbing visit, with members reluctant to move on, even with the enticement of afternoon tea at Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse. The tea was much enjoyed too - making it the perfect ending to the outing. Now members look forward to giving a warm welcome to all at the Strawberry Tea to be held in Dairsie Church hall on Sunday afternoon, 8th July.
Admiration and incredulity was my reaction to the news that twelve intrepid Bravehearts from the village had enjoyed (endured?) a canoe adventure along the River Eden from Springfield to Guardbridge. Some had canoed before - for others it was a first, but over six hours and several duckings and with breaks for refreshments, all made it! Now, they are considering their next adventure! Congratulations and good luck to all.
Winners of the June draw of the Dairsie War Memorial 200 Club were: A. P. Purvis - £20; K. M. Tomlinson - £10; M. Booth - £5. All are local folk.
Sunday past and through July, all services will last only 45 minutes, with alternate services being led by members of either Dairsie or St. Johns churches, and this Sunday, it was members from St Johns who were welcomed to Dairsie. Next Sunday, the Rev. Peter Gordon will come to Dairsie.
The Dairsie Guild Strawberry Tea is to be held from 2-4pm in the Church Hall on Sunday, 15th July, not the 8th as intimated last week. That will ensure that Wimbledon fans will not miss the final, if the dreadful rain has not intervened!
