Coffee Morning

The usual monthly coffee morning held by the Church Guild is on Thursday, 12th July from 10.00-11.30am in the church hall. It is an opportunity to meet and chat to local folk over tea/coffee and home baking. Perhaps some of those who are normally working but are enjoying their annual holiday, would like to pop in for a chat, and maybe bring a friend or the children? Coffee 50p - eats individually priced, but VERY reasonable! Churchgoers or not - all can be sure of a warm welcome.

Dairsie Primary School

Dairsie Primary School held their Summer Performance and Summer Fair on Wednesday, 20th June. The P4-7 class performed Roman songs written by themselves with the help of Ronan Watson. The P1-3 class performed "Fairy Tale News". The Hall was packed out and a great evening was had by all. The school has raised nearly £680 for their school fund which will help with transport for the children to various activities and days out. A huge big thank you to all who contributed. We are nearing the end of the summer term and the holidays begin on Thursday at 12.30 pm. Our Sports Day is this afternoon in the park - weather permitting of course.

We would like to wish our 7 Primary 7s good luck as they move on up to High School and look forward to welcoming our new Primary 1s in August.

Gala in the Park

For some time now, the members of the Pitcairn Trust have been working towards organising a GALA IN THE PARK. All other organisations and groups in Dairsie were invited to participate and as they were all in agreement, the date of 18th August was chosen. Whilst final detals are not yet available, we hope to have something for everyone in the family, from coconut shy to races, guessing game to treasure hunt, farm animals to antique tractors.

The day will be concluded with a dance to live music in the Memorial Hall.

Power Breaks

Your correspondent has been hearing of the anger and frustration of many Dairsie folk as a result of the frequent need to reset household time clocks, computers, TV's and so on, caused by short breaks in the electricity supply, and it is certain that there have been at least 13 interruptions to the supply since the end of May. There have been reports of lost information on computers, and frightening clonks on TVs which it is felt must be causing damage to them. The breaks may only be a couple of minutes, but interruption to lighting programmes designed to come on in the evenings etc when perhaps away from home, is a cause for real concern. It would be helpful if any local folk concerned at this could add their complaints to the many already going to Scottish Power, in the hope that something might finally be done.

Strawberry Tea

A delightful Sunday summer afternoon, and the ladies of Dairsie Church Guild gave a cheery welcome to those who came to enjoy their strawberries, meringue and cream, tea and biscuits. The chat flowed freely, home baking and plant sales did well, and the Guild thank all who helped and all who came to give their support. This was the Guild effort for the church, and they are pleased to report that around £250 was raised for church funds.

Surprise Visit

The strawberry tea was on, when a huge white stretch limo pulled up outside the church! Dressed up, and with buttonholes and bouquet, out stepped a very happy couple. Arranged as a surprise treat by their family, the couple, Mr.and Mrs Eadie, now living in Glenrothes, had been brought to Dairsie Church in which they were married by Dr. Graham Webster 50 years ago. The actual date of their marriage was 3rd August 1957, and the happy couple hope to return to the church to join the worship on the nearest Sunday, the 5th. An unexpected chance to go into the church, photographs taken, and the happy Golden couple drove off in great style to join their family and friends at an evening meal in Thornton.

Harry Glass died suddenly but peacefully in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy on Sunday 15th July, and the funeral took place at Dundee Crematorium this week. Harry was born and brought up in Arbroath. In the Second World War, he joined the Royal Navy, and at one time he served in the Pacific war zone as Chief Petty Officer "Radar". After the war, he worked in Dundee in electrical sales and service. On retiral, some 20 years ago, he and his wife Kathleen, came to live in Dairsie. He is survived by his wife Kate, a grown up family of four, and six grandchildren, and they are in the thoughts of all at this sad time.
