Gardens Open Scheme

Craigfoodie, Dairsie, was opened to the public on Sunday afternoon, at the invitation of Mr. and Mrs James Murray, and was very well supported. Crowds rolled in to enjoy the beautifully restored walled garden with its fine display of colour. Teas were served, and many local folk were there as well as folk from further afield, and they were delighted at the opportunity to share in such a beautiful setting, restored with such great skill.

200 Club

Winners of the July draw of the Dairsie War Memorial Hall 200 Club draw were: S. Sewell - £20; M Roberts - £10; S. Eccles - £5.

Gala in the Park

Exciting plans are being made by the Pitcairn Trust, and the important date for your diary is Saturday 18th August. On that day, the committee are planning a "Gala in the Park" in the afternoon, followed by a "Gala Dance" in the Memorial Hall in the evening. They have lots of activities planned for the afternoon - Baton Twirlers, Bouncy Castle and a tea tent are just tasters of what is to come - and admission is free. Get your tickets now for the dance - £5 - at the Post Office, or take a chance on obtaining tickets on the day at the gala in the park.

Have You Heard?

About the Gala in the Park being planned by the committee of the Pitcairn Trust? It is Our Park, and the support of everyone in the village and as many of your friends as you can bring along, is needed to make this ambitious project a success. A few more details of events planned are now available, and posted up in Dairsie Minimart. Included are: a magician, a tombola, and a chance to see a Hurricane nose cone. Also, the raffle will have some great prizes, including fishing on the Eden with tuition, and a session at Fyffe Off road, and more. There as well, will be a wood turner, bag maker and other stalls. With a Gala Ball in the evening, Saturday afternoon and evening, 18th August, promises to be a lively time. The Guild and "Rural" are serving teas and would welcome offers of baking. Please contact Willa Ferguson on 652256 if you can help.

Correction

It will be a Harrier Cockpit at the Gala in the Park tomorrow, the 18th, not as stated last week, a Hurricane nose cone. Together with the children's games, races etc. and all the other activities, displays, raffle with great prizes, tombola and much more, it will be a great afternoon out. There will be marquees if the weather is unkind, but, of course, (fingers crossed) it will be good! Poster with more details displayed at the village shop. See you all there from 1.30pm. The Pitcairn Trust needs your support to maintain the Park.

Gala Dance

In the evening in the Memorial Hall with the Sandy Anderson Band. Tickets £5 from the Minimart, the Campbell-Browns or Blair Littlejohn. A great way to end a great day!

Gala in the Park

Heavy rain in the morning - heavy rain in the evening - but just gentle drizzle in the afternoon, and folks came along with cheery smiles, delighted to see the Park alive with activities, stalls, and demonstrations. There was great baking and a warming cuppa in the very popular tea tent, run by the Church Guild and SWRI ladies, who gratefully acknowledged the generous donations of home baking. Comments were "just what the village needs" "it's amazing" and "never be deterred by the British weather". The children tearing around, busily having fun and the relaxed friendly adults said it all - it was a really good Gala. News of the amount raised for the Pitcairn Trust, and of the Dance in the evening should be available for next week, but meantime the organisers are to be congratulated for a very successful, well organised afternoon.

Back to school

An autumnal feel in the air and after very mixed summer weather, the new term has started, and no doubt a busy time ahead is planned. Best wishes to those pupils who have moved on to senior school - a big change from a small village school to such a large one, but the preparatory visit will have helped a great deal.

Parish Newsletter

The August edition of this much appreciated newsletter has been delivered, and there is news of our minister, the Rev. Sheila Blount. It is good to know that there is some improvement, and good wishes go to her for a continuing recovery.

There are dates to note - The Youth Clubs have resumed, the church has it's annual fundraising event in the Corn Exchange, Cupar, tomorrow, Saturday 25th August, and donations will be welcome at the church hall this evening from 6-7pm.

Communion Service

The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated this Sunday 2nd September at 9.30am and all are welcome at this service. There is to be a retiral collection on behalf of the Bethany Trust, a charity which offers practical help to the homeless or needy within Scotland.

Coffee Morning

It was a very busy and successful morning at the Corn Exchange on Saturday when church members served refreshments; the home baking kindly given by members and other sales stalls proved popular; and thanks go to all who helped in any way at this annual event held on behalf of Dairsie Church.

200 Club
Winners of the August draw of the Dairsie War Memorial Hall 200 Club were: L. Murray - £20; B. Jones - £10; and A. Duff - £5.
Gala in the Park

Good to know that the "smirr" which it was feared could deter folk from giving their support, failed to do so, and the note delivered to all households from the committee of the Pitcairn Trust was a much appreciated thankyou for the support. It is known that the Trust at the very least broke even for the event, but financial gain was always secondary to showing off our park, and giving a great time to Dairsie folk, and that they most certainly did. So well done the committee!

Gala Dance

The village hall was comfortably full, so dancing was lively, with all actively encouraged to get to their feet and join in. The consensus was that it was a great evening, especially enjoyed by someone from the Post Office, who was mildly embarrassed but thrilled at the birthday greeting. Her comment said it all "It's not often a dance has been held especially for me!"
