The Rev. Graham Blount led the service of celebration of Holy Communion on Sunday the 2nd September, and after the service, there was the opportunity to share in fellowship with other worshippers over light refreshments in the church.
The Session Clerk of Dairsie Parish Church, Alex. Lorimer, was pleased to announce at the communion service, that the coffee morning, held recently in the Corn Exchange, Cupar raised the very pleasing sum of £530 for the church. He expressed warmest thanks to all who contributed in any way - helpers, those who gave donations, or any who supported the event in any way.
Once again they are at it. Last weekend, it was in the park with alcohol bottles being broken in the children's play area. The roundabout and the little see-saw were covered in green glass and it was left to an observant Pitcairn Trust committee member to hopefully manage to pick it all out from the grass. An uncomfortable thought that a little one could be hurt. Then, last Friday it was the turn of two gardens in Osnaburgh Court to have their flowers pulled up and scattered on the road. More seriously, a drain cover was removed making a real trap for young ones, the visually impaired, and motorists. The police were informed. Such idiotic imbecilic behaviour is not acceptable in our village, so please keep your eyes open and report any act of vandalism.
The Pitcairn Trustees are delighted to report that the Gala made £1700, which does include a grant of £600 from Fife Council. They are grateful to Fife Council, as without their backing they would have been unable to take on the risk of organizing the Gala, because the financial outlay required to set up such an event is considerable, and this has to be covered whatever the attendance. The proceeds are to be used to improve the park, and increase it’s availability to the public for parties, gatherings etc.
The Pitcairn Trustees are very grateful to the many individuals in and around Dairsie who played a part in organizing the event, and to the public for turning up in spite of the “dreich” weather. They hope that all enjoyed their afternoon.
No Gala is planned for next year, but it is hoped to have another in two or three year’s time.
Meetings start again on Monday 24th September at 7pm after the summer break. A varied programme is planned, continuing the theme of “Body, Mind and Spirit” All are assured of a warm welcome.
At the first meeting of the new session, members heard of Al-Anon, a support group for families dealing with the problems of living with a family member suffering from the illness of "Alcoholism". Al-Anon was set up at first in America, when it was realised that family members were deeply affected, and now meetings are held world-wide. Fife has several support groups, and for those who are trying to cope alone with the inevitable problems, the information support line is confidential - 020 7403 0888. Members heard two ladies speaking. One whose husband is a recovered victim of this illness, but who can never take alcohol ever again, and the other, who became an alcoholic as a result of the trauma of the horrors he saw when on military service, and has been unfit for work for the past four years. Alcoholics Anonymous was known to most of the members, but few had heard of the similar help available to the families through Al-Anon. Those attending the group meetings can share their problems, are reassured that alcoholism is an illness for which they are in no way to blame, and they are helped to cope with the problems, the rows and violence which may occur, and they learn to accept that only the alcoholic can acknowledge the problem and ask for help. The talks were deeply moving and indeed distressing, but they came to spread the word of the wonderful support they are being given by Al-Anon, and to encourage others affected by living with alcoholism to seek the confidential help available, for it has and is of such help to them. They were thanked warmly for to speak out in this way cannot be easy.
