Vandals

It is sad indeed to hear that problems continue in the village - the most recent on Friday when glass from a broken bottle was found scattered around in the shelter in the school playground. At the very least it is thoughtless behaviour, but the possible danger to our local children is obviously great. Surely causing this vandalism can give those concerned no pleasure, and in the process they themselves may be endangered. It is understood that there has been an incident in which a teenager was hurt, and the police were called; with that in mind, it is hoped that this kind of behaviour can be stopped, with local folk being observant and reporting any incidents to the police.

Coffee Morning

Members of the Church Guild invite all to come along to the final coffee morning of the season, to be held in the Church Hall on Thursday, 11th October from 10am. They look forward to a full house on that day. Good home baking, good company, before the colder weather deters folk from venturing out. All welcome.

SWRI

Members were given a very interesting talk and demonstration on "Reflexology" at the October meeting. Mrs.Julie Baker, whose skills also include Indian head massage and Reiki, spoke of how her interest in reflexology began, and then of the very challenging courses required to obtain her qualification, including a very in depth study of anatomy and physiology. Then members watched a demonstration of a typical treatment session, and marvelled at the fine sensitivity of touch to find the raised areas on the foot which indicate problem areas anywhere on the body. She was thanked by the President, Janette Armes, and questions continued over refreshments.

Moderator's Visit

The service in Dairsie Parish Church was taken by the Moderator of the Presbytery and Minister of Hope Park Church, St. Andrews, the Rev. David Arnott. He was given a warm welcome as it is five years since the last visit of a Moderator. During the term of office, it is the custom of the Moderator to fulfil a few visits to churches within the Presbytery, and he brought prayers from the Presbytery to the congregation, especially at this difficult time when our minister is unwell. The Session Clerk, Alex. Lorimer, welcomed the Rev. Arnott on behalf of all, and also read the lessons. The Moderator chose for his sermon "How much do you believe" which proved to be most interesting and challenging. After the service, members were pleased to have the opportunity to meet the Moderator over refreshments in the church hall.

Church Guild

The topic for the October meeting was "Honouring the mind" and as there was a change from the planned programme, the President, Willa Ferguson led a discussion on attitudes of mind. A presentation on positive or negative thinking led to a lively and wide ranging discussion, which proved to be an interesting change to from the more usual format of a speaker followed by questions. It is hoped to have the speaker from the Library Services next month. The usual refreshments and business meeting completed the meeting.

200 Club

Winners of the October draw of the Dairsie War Memorial 200 Club were all from Osnaburgh Court. They were R. Mason - £20; B. Smith - £10 and A. Maxwell £5.

Harvest Supper

Supper 7.15pm prompt in the Church Hall, and such an appetising spread that all tucked in happily to the tasty fare supplied by church members. Your correspondent recalls stovies, meat lasagne, and veggie lasagne, followed by a scrumptious array of desserts, including Pavlova, trifles and fruit salads. Apologies if any offerings are not mentioned, but with tea/coffee and mints to follow, it was a fantastic spread. During and for a while after the meal, the around 40 diners enjoyed music on keyboard and a singalong led by Lewis, the church organist, followed by a church member, Jim Anderson with humorous readings from a favourite poet of his, Robert Service, and well known Scots songs to enjoy together. The evening was compered by Andrew Stevenson, whose vote of thanks to all who had worked so hard in planning, setting up, cooking etc was enthusiastically supported by all, who are still talking about the happy atmosphere and the super supper!
