Church Service

The Rev. Graeme Bell from Carnwadric Church, Glasgow, led the worship on Sunday morning and the congregation were able to watch a visual presentation of the service on a large screen. He was accompanied by members of his congregation. His wife and the Session Clerk from Glasgow read the lessons, whilst his son controlled the order of service as it appeared on the screen. The sermon told a story accompanied by pictures, bringing it vividly to life, and as the words of the hymns were on the screen, heads were not bowed over the hymnary and all were really able to sing out. An innovative approach, much appreciated and of much interest. The visitors had time for fellowship over refreshments before they went on to lead the service at St. Johns. Cupar.

Church Guild

The Guild meeting began at the Primary School to which they were invited as part of the school "Enterprise Project". It is designed to encourage the children to learn skills such as performing before an audience and meeting and talking with them. Their teacher, Sarah King, introduced pupils from Primaries 1 - 5, who first of all recited poems in Scots dialect, and they were most impressive in their confidence as they each took their turn. Then followed Scots country dancing, and what a joy to watch as they skilfully performed four dances. The final item was a preview of a dance they are creating themselves for a competition later in the year - not officially titled as yet, but known to the children as the chicken dance, and they certainly enjoyed themselves. Small cakes, decorated by the children, were then offered together with tea/coffee. Warm thanks were given by retired teacher Kathleen Innes-Smith who certainly knew the work involved in such a presentation, and there was much applause. One of the children thanked the visitors for coming, and an invitation to see, at a later date, the costumed, completed chicken dance was promised.

The meeting then adjourned to the church hall, where Craig Rodger was welcomed to test the powers of observation with slides of views of Dairsie including church interiors, and of Cupar and surrounding areas. His audience were left abashed at their failure to identify familiar places! Appreciative thanks were given to Craig who is a church member as well as member of Cupar Camera Club. A further cuppa ended the meeting.
