Some time ago, the church weathervane was blown down in a storm and in doing so, it was broken. Now, after some essential stonework has been done, a fine new weathervane will be installed, the scaffolding will go, and our church will be complete again.
The Rev Gareth Davies led the worship, before a larger than usual congregation, at the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. The service was followed by a welcome opportunity for fellowship over refreshments in the church hall.
As the days become a little warmer and brighter, the monthly Thursday coffee mornings begin again in the church hall. The first one will be on 11th March at 10-11:30am. Though in the church premises, it is stressed that the ladies of the Guild welcome all (male and female) who would enjoy a coffee/tea/cake and the warmth of the friendship offered.
Tomorrow evening, Saturday 10th May, members of Dairsie Women’s Guild are holding a Penny (or Silent) Auction in The Memorial Hall at 7pm. Admission £1 to include tea and biscuits. At a recent Hall Committee meeting the following future fundraising events and dates were arranged:-
The Hall Committee hopes we will have your support at some of the above events, and ask you to fill in the dates in your diary now.
Maths, science and IT skills were the challenging tasks for teams from schools across Scotland when St. Leonard’s School hosted the annual tests of teamwork. Dairsie School’s team of four pupils were the runners-up in the small schools category, just behind Kilgraston Prep School. Congratulations to the school – a proud result indeed.
At the March meeting, members of Dairsie "Rural" were entertained by Mr. Ken Greenaway who, in an informative and amusing way, demonstrated the whole process of woodturning from start to finish. There was also the chance to purchase some of his interesting work. The vote of thanks was given by Jeanette Armes and tea was served by Rhoda Dewar.
Competition winners were: Pecan pie - 1st Jeanette Armes, 2nd - Audrey Fenion; Flower of the month - 1st Willa Ferguson, 2nd Helen Horsburgh.
Dairsie SWRI (not the Church Guild as was quoted last week) held a very successful Coffee Evening/Auction in the village hall last Saturday. It was a very unusual event for the village and the hall was packed. All items to be auctioned were donated and such an amazing variety of great pieces they proved to be! All were welcomed by the President, Mary Booth, and the bidding and recording of sales was all dealt with efficiently and cheerily by "Rural" ladies. Those present enjoyed tea/coffee which had been served as they sat down after viewing the sales table. For "Rural" funds, there was a home baking stall, but the main charity to benefit was Children's Hospice Association Scotland - the charity chosen by SWRI members for this year, and they are pleased to be able to send them £373.14. The President thanked all who helped to organise the event, and all who donated items, and of course, all those who attended the auction and enjoyed bidding to buy the great bargains.
The Rev. Marion Paton has recently taken up a ministry at the High Kirk in Dundee after several years at Howe of Fife, and it was much appreciated that she was able to spare the time from her new, and no doubt busy, charge to speak to the members of Dairsie Guild. Her subject was Rome and Assisi, and members were taken on a visual tour with photographs taken by the speaker during trips she has led to Italy. The buildings interiors and the external views were beautiful, and with the accompanying commentary bringing the images to life, it proved to be an interesting and informative evening, giving rise to many comments and questions. She was warmly thanked, and refreshments and chat with members followed, before she departed and a short business meeting followed.
Winners of the March draw of the Dairsie War Memorial Hall 200 Club were: Mrs. M.Graham - £20; G. Horsburgh - £10; and E. Becher - £5.
In your Newsletter, there was mention that the Hall Committee are to hold a fete in the village in June. They are planning a Best Garden competition, so you are advised to get out the trowels, and get busy. Also, be ready to join in a great fun day, as there will be different things going on through the day, with other competitions for adults and children, ending with a ceilidh with a live band. They advise you to keep watching the Dairsie News for more details.
But first, they plan a Coffee Morning with usual stalls on Saturday, 12th April - admission £1, and they ask that you pop along for an hour from 11am to support your village hall. Local volunteers take care of our hall, and they really need our support.
A Safari Supper is being planned for Saturday, 10th May to which all are welcome. For those who have never heard of, or are unsure of, what happens, participants meet in the church hall; are given the different addresses they go to for each course; pile into cars or walk if local, and finally return to base. It is great fun but of course, Hosts/Hostesses are needed to serve a course to small groups (you choose the number you can cope with) and if you can help, or would like more information please phone Carol Owen.
