A good group of over 50 congregated in the Memorial Hall last Saturday to put their knowledge to the test in the first 2008 Quiz Night. The questions, compiled by the resident quizmaster, Blair Littlejohn, during his recent time in Japan, covered a variety of diverse subjects. Some questions were easy for some, and impossible for others, but all enjoyed the challenge. Finally, the team which got the most answers correct was made up of John and Susan Eccles of Bruckley, and Mike and Hilary Ritchie of Dairsie. They went home happy with their achievement of winning the trophy which they keep for a year. A few stayed on after the quiz to enjoy a drink or two at the bar served admirably by Heather. A good time was had by all and around £300 was raised for the maintenance of the Hall.
The Rev. Gareth Davies led the service of Holy Communion in Dairsie Church on 1st June. Tea/coffee followed in the hall and thanks go to those who give their help with this much appreciated opportunity for fellowship.
On Monday 26th May, two teams went to Castlehill School for a Cross Country Race. The girls team did really well coming in first overall, and the boys did well too, just missing being placed.
The school is very proud to have been awarded a second Green Flag. To gain it, the Eco Committee have been working really hard all round the school ensuring that all make every effort to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in all aspects of school life, and no doubt taking the message home too.
A Sponsored Walk was organised recently by a group from P4-7. They were raising money for Maggies Centre in Dundee. This was followed, a day or so later, by a visit from Valerie Busher from the Centre, who talked to the children about it and the great work done there. She expressed most grateful thanks for the cheque which they were pleased to present.
We are all being asked to support the Gala Day on Saturday 28th June. The committee of the Dairsie War Memorial Hall are appealing for donations of either a bottle or a tin – anything will be appreciated, from a bottle of sauce, a bottle of wine, to a tin of beans or beetroot all sorts will be welcomed. Please hand in donations to Carol, or to Blair.
The Guild outing this year was to two churches for very interesting talks at both, followed by tea at the Animal Park Bistro by Collessie. Creich Church was first, where Ena Thate, Session Clerk, welcomed members with a very informative talk and the delightful surprise of a cup of tea while questions continued. Then they moved on to Monimail where Hugh Laidlaw, Session Clerk, known to many from the services he led for a time at Dairsie, awaited the group. He was a mine of information about the church and parish, and questions flowed freely. Afternoon tea of tasty scones and cakes completed a very enjoyable afternoon.
The end of term approaches and there are eight pupils from P7 who will be moving on to Senior School after the summer break – we wish them well. At present, there are only four enrolled to join P1 – more would be welcome, so it is to be hoped that more families will be moving in to the properties for sale in the village.
Children from the school have been involved in two cross country events. Fife cross country in which the girls team came 2nd, and the “Dairsie Dash” a run at Kinnaird Farm, in which schools from N.E. Fife came together. Balmerino boys won, and St. Columba’s A. won for the girls, with Dairsie girls coming a close second. However, they all had a great time in this healthy pursuit.
Advance notice – this is planned for 6pm on 1st July, and the community are asked to give their support.
It’s tomorrow (Saturday) and the Memorial Hall Committee are looking forward to a busy time, with the community giving their support. Lots of events are planned for the afternoon – from 2 till 5pm. Then there is the Ceilidh from 8pm - tickets £7.50; children under 12 £5.00.
Have a great time and help your village hall too.
Dairsie Primary School’s P4-7s are supporting the Fair Trade campaign. They are learning how it helps folk in poorer countries who work hard to get paid a fair price for the work they do and the goods they produce. Prices are sometimes a wee bit higher but to know that starving children and their families no longer need to go hungry is great news. There will be stalls at the school Fayre on 1st July.
It is a new venture and the children from P1-7 are enjoying the fun golf lessons at 3pm on Mondays. Do we have a new Colin Montgomerie or Tiger Woods about to blossom in our small village?
