The Memorial Hall has been well used of late, as, in addition to the Gala Day, two private celebrations have been held there.
Helen Horsburgh enjoyed a happy celebration of her 85th birthday at the hall with family and friends. She also found the energy to join in the Gala Day at the hall, and was up for every dance at the Ceilidh! Incredible!
Alice Cowieson is looking forward to a full and happy time as she celebrated her early retirement as a peripatetic drama teacher with around 50 family, friends and colleagues at an evening party at the hall organised for her by some of the many school staff she has met on her travels round the schools over the years.
Warmest congratulations to both and every good wish for many more happy and fulfilling years.
There was a warm welcome on Sunday to the minister, the Rev. Sheila Blount, who is gradually easing herself back to work after her lengthy absence due to ill health. She shared the service with the Rev Gareth Davies who is continuing as Locum meantime.
For your diary : Dairsie Church will be holding a Strawberry Tea on Sunday afternoon, 20th July from 2pm. All are welcome.
The 4th July is the last day of the school year. Happy holidays with kind weather is wished to all.
The Dairsie Memorial Hall Committee were overwhelmed at the enthusiastic support from groups and individuals and are delighted to report that hall funds have benefited by the sum of £1055 for their Gala Day on Saturday – warmest thanks to all.
Sunshine greeted the opening of the village fête at the Memorial Hall. With bunting and balloons among the trees, the grounds looked very festive. Under the gazebos, the stalls did a roaring trade while behind the hall there were games for the young and not so young. Delicious strawberry teas were served at outside tables until a shower of rain drove everybody inside. The sun soon appeared again but inside there was plenty to see. The many entries to the various competitions were on display and an interesting Nature Trail challenge was laid out on the stage. No prizes for this one, just a chance for the locals to test their knowledge of the country side. A good turn out from the village and beyond was exactly what the organizing committee deserved for all their hard work in preparation for the afternoon. There was also a huge raffle and tombola thanks to the many generous donations from around the village. The Memorial Hall is certainly a great setting for such an afternoon, and I’m sure the many people who turned out are hoping that such a wonderful village get together will happen again in the future.
On behalf of the Hall Committee, the chair Carol Owen thanked the many folk who made the Gala afternoon so enjoyable - those who came from the village and further afield, and those who gave the very generous donations to the stalls and raffle. She mentions the committee members for their hard work on the day; the competition judges Lilias Smith and Helen Mc Naughton; the Youth Club, School, Pitcairn Trust, Community Council, and SWRI. There were thanks to the helpers, Bethan, Rosemary and Susan, who were kept busy serving the strawberry teas, as well as to all the stall holders.
The entrants to all the competitions deserve a special mention, as their support and effort gave so much pleasure. Competition winners were:

The Gala day ended with a Ceilidh in the village hall with music played by the Dunshelt Ceilidh Band. For the evening, thanks go to Sharif, Heather and especially Blair for all their help and support. All funds raised for the day go to maintain the hall, and there is a great big wish that all enjoyed a great day.
Winners of the June draw of the Dairsie War Memorial Hall 200 Club were: £20 – J. Crowe; £10 – R. Brown; £5 - H. Treagus c/o Johnson. All are local or with family connection.
Dairsie Church Guild members are looking forward to welcoming locals and visitors to a Strawberry Tea in the Church Hall on Sunday 20th July from 2pm. price £2.50. There will be stalls with home baking and plants, for which donations will be gratefully received.
Mrs M. Kinnaird from Childrens Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) gave a talk at the 6th June meeting on their work at Kinross, and thanked us for the much needed donation. On June 20th, members and friends went to Newtonmore to the Waltzing Waters and Highland Museum. Then on to Kingussie for a lovely buffet supper. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day out. On 4th July, two teams from Dairsie entered the Bowling Competition from Fife Group held at Kirkcaldy. Although Dairsie had no winners, it was a great day out, concluding with a much enjoyed high tea. Good luck to Limekilns, who as the winners, go on to the final for the whole of Scotland on 25th August.
It turned out to be a very hectic afternoon when the members of Dairsie Church Guild held their strawberry tea in the church hall on Sunday afternoon. Two pm. and members were agreed that few would come, as all would be relaxing after a large Sunday lunch. Not so! At that moment they came, and in no time at all the seats were all taken – the trays of delicious strawberries, cream and meringues were rushed in, soon to be followed by tea or coffee and shortbread, and a crescendo of voices as friends met up with cheery chat. There were friends from Strathkinness and Kemback churches with whom Dairsie linked at one time, as well as from Cupar St Johns, and other folk, a very few locals, holidaymakers and others tempted in, and of course, family and friends. There was a well stocked home baking stall, as well as books and plants for sale, and altogether, it was a very happy event, which raised around £350 for Guild funds, which are mostly used to help good causes supported by the Church Guilds.
On Sunday 27th July at 9.45am, instead of the Rev Gareth Davies as stated in the church newsletter, the service will be led by Mr. Bill Imlay, an approved preacher in St Andrews Presbytery, who has been invited to lead the worship to cover for holidays.
