The Fife Herald has kindly given the Dairsie web site permission to copy the Dairsie News that is printed in the Fife Herald every week.
Dairsie folk are bracing themselves for the disruption along the Main Street when the planned carriageway works will cause delays, beginning any time during the next three weeks from Monday 9th February. Together with other work in Cupar, the Roads Department plan to complete the repairs etc in one short spell – hopefully the right decision!
The Presbytery Service to mark the Union of the two Churches of Cupar St. John’s and Dairsie was held at St John’s on Sunday, 1st February before a congregation of about 90 from the two churches and other Cupar churches. The worship was led by the Moderator, the Rev. Lyn Brady, minister of Abdie and Dunbog linked with Newburgh. In the sermon, she likened the union to a marriage, as the members of the two congregations stand to confirm that they have agreed to come together in a union. The minister, the Rev. Sheila Blount led a prayer for the now "Cupar St. John’s and Dairsie United Parish Church of Scotland". Refreshments followed with the opportunity for members of both churches to meet together in fellowship.
The Annual General Meeting of Dairsie War Memorial Hall is to be held in the hall on Thursday 26th February at 7.30pm. All interested persons will be welcomed to this meeting. Anyone who can spare some time to serve on the committee, or cannot do that, but would be willing to help sometimes at events, is asked to go along to the meeting or to contact Carol Owen. Remember it is our hall and volunteers are always much needed!
Yet again, there is a problem of a selfish person or persons allowing their dog to use the Memorial Hall grounds as a toilet. Is it quite impossible for the guilty person to walk a little further, and give their dog its freedom in a place where children do not play? Local folk are asked to keep alert and to report any sightings to Carol Owen who will follow it up with the Dog Warden who can take appropriate legal action.
As expected, the resurfacing of the Main Street is creating delays at rush hours especially. Access to homes, the shop and the garage is difficult and at times impossible, but the company are aware of the problems and making good progress. Fingers crossed they will complete the work in less than the estimated three weeks, and the village will have a splendidly smooth road! Fingers crossed too, that some of the heavy traffic will have discovered the north road from Melville roundabout and continue to use it to the blessed protection of the new surface and to peace for the village!
Next Sunday, the 22nd February, brings the annual pulpit exchange, when the Presbytery arrange for ministers to move to take the service in a different church and in doing so to convey a greeting from the Presbytery. Worship in Dairsie Church is to be led by Mr David Murdoch, Presbytery Approved Preacher – he is well known to us and will be assured of a warm welcome. The service is at 9.45am as usual.
Winners of the February draw of the Dairsie War Memorial Hall 200 Club were: Karen Dawson £20; Barbara Taylor £10; E. Muirhead £5.
The service was led by Mr David Murdoch, Presbytery Approved Preacher and former Moderator of the Presbytery of St Andrews, assisted by Mr Bill Kinnis, a Retired Lay Reader. Carol Owen, Depute Session Clerk, welcomed them on behalf of the congregation. In his sermon, Mr Murdoch spoke movingly on the theme of "Loneliness", as well as bringing greetings on behalf of the Presbytery.
Dairsie Church elders are now delivering communion cards to all members of Dairsie Church prior to the sacrament of the Lord's Supper in Dairsie this Sunday, 1st March at 9.45am.
The Elders also bring to all church members, copies of the 1st edition of "Outreach", which brings a message from the minister, Mrs Sheila Blout, and news of the activities etc in the two united churches of Cupar St John's and Dairsie.
Replacing the familiar "Dairsie Parish Church and Community Newsletter" is to be "Outreach Plus". This will be delivered to all households in Dairsie as before and will contain all the usual church and community news. It is hoped the 1st edition will be with us before Easter.
