The Fife Herald has kindly given the Dairsie web site permission to copy the Dairsie News that is printed in the Fife Herald every week.
On Sunday, 22nd March, the final Stated Annual Meeting of Dairsie Parish Church was held, with the minister, the Rev. Sheila Blount in the chair. Next year, all will change as a result of the union with Cupar St Johns. There were the usual reports, including the treasurer’s report, which had already been approved by the office bearers and was presented to be received by the meeting. The treasurer also presented the Trustees Annual Report prior to its submission to OSCAR. All reports were approved and the meeting closed.
I wish to resign as soon as possible, and with that in mind, I am happy to talk to anyone who might be considering taking over. It is a great interest and I have enjoyed it, but after 25 years I deserve to take it easy!
All are welcome to the Coffee Morning to be held in Dairsie Church hall on Thursday, 9th April from 10 - 11.30am. Tea/coffee and home baking will await you.
Dairsie WRI celebrated it’s 90th Birthday with a very enjoyable meal at Elmwood College. Members were joined by the Federation and Group Chairpersons and invited guests from neighbouring WRI’s. The cake was cut by Honorary Member, Helen Horsburgh. After the meal, the President Mary Booth, gave a short history of the early years of the "Rural" in Dairsie. This was found after much research in old minute books from the various Dairsie organisations of the early days. Mary Hutchison, with her most entertaining singing and recitation, rounded off a most enjoyable evening.
The minister the Rev. Sheila Blount led the service in Dairsie Church on the 12th April, Easter Sunday. It was a celebration of "Jesus Christ is risen today" - always a very joyous time in Christian worship. In the church the previous Sunday, there was a very bare cross made from the tree which had been used in the church at Christmas. For Easter Sunday it was simply, but beautifully, bedecked with ivy round it’s branches, daffodils and primroses at the foot and then along the crossbar, there were four arum lilies with their trumpets symbolically facing up to heaven.
The service next Sunday at 9.45am will be led by the Rev. Andrew Stevenson, who will also be providing pastoral cover from Mon 13th - Wednesday 22nd April when the minister is away.
Dairsie Guild will be welcoming at their meeting on Monday 20th April at 7pm, a very special speaker, Mrs Alison Twaddle, General Secretary of the Church of Scotland Guild.
The Memorial Hall Committee is holding a Spring Coffee morning in the Hall tomorrow, Saturday between 11am and 12 noon. Cake and Candy, Raffle, Books, Tombola, Plants and Produce donations for the stalls would be very welcome. We hope you will support this event – short notice but everyone is welcome, and your support is greatly needed for the upkeep of your village hall.
I have notified the Editor of my decision to retire as Dairsie correspondent not later than the end of May, but in the meantime I am still interested in receiving any Dairsie news. Any offers to take over will be very welcome – it is very interesting and gives a great feeling of involvement in the life of the community.
