Dairsie Church Guild
"Aspects of Flowers" was the title chosen for the show put on by the ladies of Dairsie Church Guild this past weekend and what a great show it proved to be. Visitors saw flowers certainly, but the displays were themed to show the variety of ways in which flowers play a part in everyone's lives. Understanding came when a skull and crossbones and a deep dark cauldron came into view! The accompanying flowers were a source of poison, and as each display came into view, there were flowers as seen by Dairsie's schoolchildren, with delightful plasticine insects and big beautiful paper butterflies; flowers mentioned in the Bible appeared alongside posies with a 'say it with flowers message'; in needlework, paintings or photography; exotic or country garden; in music or for church decoration; and many more well thought out, intriguing displays, just too many to mention. The inspiration and driving force behind the show was the Guild President and she convinced each member that of course they had the talent, imagination and energy! and indeed they had all responded hesitantly at first and later with enthusiasm, to present displays to delight the eye and stimulate the mind. Appreciative thanks go to all who helped, in staging, presenting or looking after the inner man (or woman) in the church hall, with many returning for a further look, so much to see and absorb. Well done - ladies of the Guild and all those friends who gave so much support and help behind the scenes. This was an event for the community and around £510 was raised which will go to charitable causes.
Winners of the June draw of the Dairsie War Memorial Hall 200 Club were: Mrs. A. Duff £20, Mr. A. Pine £10, and Mr. G. Logan £5. All Dairsie folk.
The Tots Group recently undertook a sponsored buggy walk around Birnie Loch. The weather was good and everyone seemed to enjoy the day. Some walked or ran the whole way while others were pushed or carried! A total of £202.25 was raised and will be put to good use for new play equipment for the children. A huge thank you to everyone who took part. The group takes a short break over the summer holidays, but has organised two dates to meet up in the park. These dates are Wednesday, July 15 and August 5, when a picnic lunch will be provided. If you’ve not signed up yet there is still time, just give Marianne or Sarah a call.
