Burns Supper

The Village Hall was the venue for a very entertaining Burns supper organised by the ladies of Dairsie SWRI. President Marion Smith welcomed everyone and introduced the chairman for the evening, Douglas Abercrombie. The haggis, carried in by Poosie Nancy (Marion Smith), was piped in by Douglas Pearston and addressed by Jim Anderson. After supper, John Dewar proposed the Immortal Memory, Speed the Plough was proposed by Alex Lorimer and the reply was given by Craig Rodger. Matthew Wilson proposed the Toast to the Lassies and Rural member Margaret Roberts gave the Reply. The toasts were interspersed with recitations and songs by Jim Anderson and John Dewar. Craig Rodger then recited a poem which he had written for the occasion. Rev. Andrew Stevenson proposed the vote of thanks for what had been a very enjoyable evening and everyone joined in singing "Auld Lang Syne".

Church Guild

For the first part of our February meeting, we joined others from the village at the school for their open day, where the children performed two short "plays". Back in the church hall, we made arrangements for our spring and summer activities, including our open musical evening on April 19, and the first of our monthly morning coffees on Thursday, March 11.

Eleanor Muirhead

With the death of Eleanor Muirhead earlier this month at the age of 87, Dairsie lost one of its most respected senior citizens. Coming to live in the village some 25 years ago with her husband Bill (who predeceased her), she was an enthusiastic supporter of village activities. She was a very capable person with a wide variety of interests, and she had a fine ability to make and nurture friendships. A regular attendee at Dairsie Church, where she served as an elder and a past President of the Guild, Mrs. Muirhead enjoyed being involved in the life of the church. In her latter years, though suffering from loss of sight and hearing, she showed tremendous courage, perseverance and faith as she maintained her independence and wider interests. Her funeral service was held last Friday in Dairsie Church.
