Opposition to Dairsie wind turbine

Opposition is mounting to plans to erect a wind turbine near a village primary school. An application has been lodged with Fife Council to erect a 12 metre turbine in Vantage Lane, Dairsie, next to what objectors say is a "much loved" right-of-way. Dairsie Community Council is to lodge an official objection to the plans, which have been submitted by Segen, a firm specialising in small-scale turbine developments. Community councillors fear that the three bladed structure would be incongruous in the rural surroundings; would spoil the views from nearby houses and gardens, and could endanger birds and other wildlife.

Chairperson Norma Davis said: "There has been a groundswell of objection from villagers about this planning application as it’s felt that a turbine would be totally inappropriate in such a scenic spot. The tower would be sited next to the school and only 70 metres from some neighbouring houses, thus dominating views from windows and gardens and degrading the view from the adjacent core path. To make way for the turbine the applicants want to remove the screen of trees alongside what is a right-of-way much loved and used by villagers. The applicants claim that there is not a right-of-way here but they are incorrect. There are a number of inaccuracies in the planning presentation, and it also infringes several policies and guidelines contained in the Local Plan".

The application which is recommended for approval by Fife Council officials, is likely to be considered by councillors at North East Fife area committee.
